HallowsEve79: Expression: EXCEPTION_PRIV_INSTRUCTION (0xC0000096)

I'm sorry, but I can't help you with that one.
Error 0xC0000096 is such a generic one, and is a real rabbit hole trying to figure out.
Maybe I could figure it out if I had the machine on hand, but I've tried troubleshooting that error online before, and I spent a week without getting anywhere.
Basically, the error means the application has tried to access a part of your RAM it's not supposed to.
It doesn't have access due to lack of permissions, and so it crashes. It's happening on a hardware level, so there's really nothing you can do about it. And it seems to be an error that has been in the game since the release patch back in 2020.
I've seen many suggest this is a hardware error related to your RAM, which I personally don't think it is.
I have had faulty RAM, and that gave me hard locks and blue screens everywhere, even when just navigating Windows Explorer.
What I can suggest, in increasingly advanced order is:
- Run the game in Windowed Borderless mode. Disable DLSS and RayTracing.
- Contact CDPR support directly.
https://support.cdprojektred.com/en/cyberpunk/pc/sp-technical/issue/1700/contact-to-support - Disable Vsync / Gsync / FreeSync.
- Set fixed refresh and a max FPS in the Nvidia Control panel (under "Manage 3D settings").
- Downgrade your GPU drivers.
I've seen many report this actually helps. 531.79 works fine for me (10900K / RTX 3080 / Asus Z490 XII Hero / 64 GB RAM).
If it still crashes after this step, you're already in blind shot territory.
- Turn off any overclocks.
- Disable XMP (BIOS).
- Remove 1 RAM channel (2 sticks at a time - first slot 1 and 3, then replace and remove stick 2 and 4).
- Check your RAM for errors. Remove 3 sticks, test each stick in turn. Should give each stick 3 passes (it will take about a day to do, per stick).
