I'm tired of "save the galaxy" kind of games too, which may be why I liked the story in BG1 better than in BG2. As for save the galaxy scenario, though, it would be interesting with a game where we save the world from Evil Arts.

Atlantico: No, ToB didn't expand anything.
Thus not an expansion. In fact BG1's ToSC actually *expanded* the game, explorable areas, level cap, plot ... it's as much an expansion as one can possibly imagine.
It is the anti-ToB.
To emphasize further; an expansion *expands*, makes something of a certain size *larger*. After ToB, BG2 is exactly the same as before, thus *not* expanded. ToB is then just played as if it was a completely stand-alone game, because it is. It just requires you to own BG2 to play it.
crumb24: Actually, you're wrong. BG2:SoA is expanded a little bit by ToB. You can access Watcher's Keep during a play-through of SoA, so even though its just one dungeon more, the game is technically expanded. Thus not an expansion. Ironically it only serves to remind people that the common assets *could* have been shared between the two games but we here at Bioware prefer to be lazy and just split the games.
Who are you kidding? Yourself? Level cap increase and a wild-mage class is not an expansion. Babe.

Atlantico: If you want to claim that the Watcher's Keep is the BG2 expansion, fine. A lame and quite tiny expansion. That dungeon adds nothing to the game, adds nothing to the story, adds some grinding! On the other hand it's also a part of ToB. So I guess it's there for the people who just wanted to play a random dungeon and forget ToB exists.

This is something I don't understand, BG1 and BG2 expansions have the same structure: Adding a single area ultra-hard and a very basic mini-adventure, except that ToB closed the history meanwhile the Tales is basically a bad dream with only ONE (OPTIONAL) single mention in BG2. Ironically it only serves to remind people that the common assets *could* have been shared between the two games but we here at Bioware prefer to be lazy and just split the games.

However the hate is only for the second expansion, we should be equally hating both versions! (or no one).
Actually, this structure is so "Solid" that Obsidian did again with the first expansion for the Pillars of eternity: One ultra-hard area plus a mini history (this time a little longer as is counted in two parts and for now we have only the first part), and this time without including new classes or new kits for the previous ones.

BG1 expansion was actually quite minimalistic and could be compared just to Watcher's Keep of ToB. ToB's content took me quite a more considerable amount of time to finish than TotSC, even with cheats (I gave up playing it fair in fight with Gromnir).

Rubbish. TotSC had three... THREE... completely new and separate, quest related areas: Werewolf Island, Ice Labyrinth, Durlag's Tower. Not to mention Ulgoth's Beard and Aec'Letec! Minimalistic? Crap.

Well, ToB had that part with besieged city, Gromnir's part, Yaga Shura part, Abazigal's Lair, Sendai palace (or whatever it was), some kind of rifts before fighting final boss, with various hell interludes and events in-between and probably something else that I missed. That's beside actual Watcher's Keep. As I said, its only major flaw was that it wasn't directly integrated into BG2.

That's all part of the same quest line. From your angle, you might as well say that TotSC was even bigger, because it had N. Werewolf Island, S. Werewolf Island, Shipwreck, Ulgoth's Beard, Level 1 of Durlag's Tower, Level 2 of... you get the picture. What you are implying is nonsense.

No, I imply subquests with logical conclusions, not zones:) Watcher's Tower was also a multifloor place, just like Sendai's palace. Besieged city had basement, etc. You simply liked TotSC more than ToB, so for you ToB looks smaller :)

Your logic is astounding. So, in your eyes, what does it take for something to *not* be minimalistic?

Something on scale of what Lord of Destruction was for Diablo II. I know that DIablo II has a much faster pace, but I think that it is still quite a good example. Edit: I also found NWN 1st expansion to be "ok" in size (I never played 2nd expansion >.<).

Yet, is the same basic structure ( Tales: The tower to testing your skills, the were-wolf for justifying the expansion, Throne: Another tower for testing your skills, and the ending of the Bhaal's essence for closing the history justifying the expansion), and in my case each time I played the Tales, I remember those one-single episode from many series where what happened is irrelevant to the history.
And now I think so, Pillars of eternity has ANOTHER tower for testing your skills (well, technically two towers as The endless Path was the original Hard area) though this time very small (Again, because the Endless Path had that purposed filled already),

low rated
I don't know and i don't care, about it being hated. I enjoyed it PRETTY much when i finished it, a couple of years ago, for the first time. Its spells are something else, something mighty. It's combat is gory and satisfying, feels almost like Diablo. Sarevok joining you was LOVEABLE, this dependable, clockwork ninja nigga dog is a regular, typical, god of war!
Hell, people even complain that his game is and feels OVERPOWERED! Softies and hardcores Ultra Whinefest! No drama, thank you.
Great game, nonetheless.
