OK. I kill Sarevok, I get the end of game sequence, and boots back to the start screen. I get a "Final Save" game, but it just puts me back to the moment I fight Sarevok. Also, on the first install, it didn't show the mission pack game, though it was in it's own directory. I delete the final save game, kill Sarevok again, no final save game this time. I uninstall, then reinstall, put my saved games back, kill Sarevok again but don't get a "Final Save" game. On the reinstall, the mission pack save game is there. Vista 64. UAC not implemented.
The final save is always created before you fight Sarevok. If you haven't played the expansion areas before you should go back through the labyrinth and do those quests, return afterwards, after fighting Sarevok the game is over.
You should have reach the XPCap before the final fight, if you absolutely need the XP from this area, you can export your character manually.

You don't need a final save, a normal save before the final battle does the same.

I want to play the expanded mission pack with my old crew. The saved mission pack game has different formation classes, higher points, and a few different monsters if my memory serves me correctly. Why does it not make a final save now? Could it be that I am fighting Sarevok before I should even be there?
I don't know why the game doesn't make a final save, but you don't need it. Just reload a normal save.

If I recall right the expansion pack content is all added into the main game, new levels and all its just another part of the game world that you encounter with many of the new quests and areas being optional.
There is a save created with a predefined party that lets you fool around in the new areas, but its just a regular game advanced through to where the new areas are unlocked.

If you are basing comments about health (for example) off viewing the GoG screenshots I'm pretty sure they were using health (and maybe other) cheats to boost up their characters to get through and get some neat screenshots for us ;)
As has been said by the others here, you seem to misunderstand how the expansion pack works. All it does is add a few new areas, higher XP cap, new items and monsters (those new areas only).

The whole Sarevok fight thing you have described is perfectly normal. If the game does create a save when you've completed the game by killing Sarevok then it creates the save JUST BEFORE the fight.

All that the save is really for is so that you have your final character statistics saved so that you can export them and import them into BG2.
Ok Thanks for all your advice. Just one question, in the GOG version, it has a mission pack save. How come it has a different formation grouping in that save if it is identical? And it seems to be staring the game over.

I'm not sure at which point in the game it is, it seems like the mission pack save has most areas unlocked (I'll admit I've not got that far in the game yet) so some areas might require that you take a specific quest or use a specific character to unlock.

Further as to the formations if you right click on the formations icons you can access the other formation types present - its just that the mission pack save has some different ones saved as default rather than the game starting ones.

As said its just a regular game save placed in to allow people to get at the new areas without having to quest or play to get to them.
Completely off topic, but I managed to complete Baldur's Gate today....

*proud*

:)
Uhm, hope I get a reply but... I completed the game and neither the CHAR1.CHR file was made, nor was "final-save" put in my save directory. Very annoying. And very weird. If I load up Baldur's gate, I can see final-save in the menu and I can also load it... but it is simply not in the "Save" folder of the game. WTF? Also... CHAR1.CHR file not found... WTF2? (Yes, I searched thouroughly for it...). Other normally saved games are present. Except for a save I made in the under city right before final-save was made.

Could this be a Vista problem? The GOG version has been buggy for me. As in, it sometimes would crash and I would actually lose save games off the HD.

Hm, I don't know about Final save. My gets saved as 000002-Final-save each time.
But for CHAR1.CHR, it's easy to export character, just do it yourself. ;-)

Turns out it was Vista. I had re-enabled the User Account Control by accident. When I disabled it again, everything worked normally. Unfortunately, the saves from when the UAC was active are gone forever. Vista sucks.

The saves aren't gone forever - they are likely skulking about in the VirtualStore folder [where Vista / 7 redirects file writes for older applications, this is to make it "seamless" for end users and reduce the # of pop ups for UAC issues].

Go to C:\Users\{Your Windows User Name}\AppData\Local\VirtualStore and you should see folders for redirected applications. I am guessing that the BG saves would be in \VirtualStore\Program Files\Black Isle\Baldurs Gate\Saves or something like that.

Thank you! I had assumed they were around somewhere (unless Vista had access to some pocket dimension and was storing the games there...). But I couldn't find anything helpful on Google and just gave up. Thanks for telling me about the virtual store folder. Now maybe I can start using UAC again...
