I've finally made it up to the final fight in this game after however many years but Sarevok and his cronies are completely destroying me - all the buffs in the world don't seem to save my party from all getting held and slept and then summarily executed.

An old walkthrough says to try walking outside and, if you're lucky, only Sarevok will follow you. However I can't seem to leave once battle starts? Is this an exploit that EE fixed?
A good opening when you enter the temple building is to keep all your party next to the bottom of the big room, away from the central skull and from the side (as traps will appear around those areas)

Then get your thief to use his stealth (or use some invisibility spell or whatever) and slowly move toward where Sarevok is (avoiding walking on the central skull of course), don't move too much, stay where you can see Sarevok but do not approach much more

At some point Sarevok will see through the invisibility and start a dialogue.

Once completed, move back your thief away , back toward your party in the bottom of the screen, as Sarevok is summoning his own party.

One of Sarevok guys (a mage) will spawn on the bottom of the room (the intent was to attack your party from behind), where you have left your full party, defeating the "attack from behind" :)

If you retreated your thief fast enough, none of Sarevok and his friends are coming for you, leaving you free to destroy the mage that spawned there, putting your team in an advantage as Sarevok party is already one man down.

After that something that can work nicely, is to move your mage(s) up a bit (stay out of view of the enemies) , cast a Web spell and some Cloudkill and move your mage back, the Web save rolls triggering each turn means some of the enemies should be immobilized for some turns at least.
And the cloudkill even with save will still hurt them each turn, weakening them.
But don't stay there, get your mage back after that, as Sarevok may come, lead him to your party and that could lead into your full party vs Sarevok alone.

Summoning monsters will help too

example with my mage (Dynaheir ) hurting some of Sarevok guys like that in the attached screenshot
