Note: These 4 Starshine Legacy games, each one 7 Levels long, are available to play on browser for now, but let's face it, that probably won't be forever. I would love an official digital release of this game so I don't have to dread the day my physical CDs stop running and/or the browser version support ends.
What made this game unforgettable: The soundtrack. The unique style of voice acting (little imaginary language quips instead of full lines). The graphics style which was gorgeous at the time, and still looks nice because it was stylized enough to handle the passing of time. The story (!!).
What makes the game fun is probably gonna be the story that unfolds over the 4 games. Each of the 4 girls' story reveals more about the mystery, and it is an absolute treat for any supernatural fan. I also got a heaping amount of bonus points for being a horse girl at heart.
I loved exploring each new area I was introduced to, and there was a side objective that you could gather 3 optional little stars in the environment. Totally optional to pick those up, but it was fun to gather them.
I already mentioned the soundtrack, but it is good enough that I've added it to my Spotify playlist(s). Super nostalgic obviously, but also a strong soundtrack in its own right.
The most challenging parts of the game(s), in my experience, were the chase/race sequences. Those were the parts I did need several re-tries in. Yes, the controls are a bit clunky and it's hard to do evasion while also trying to get away.
I would love to see the Starshine Legacy games on GOG, just to know that I can definitely still revisit my beloved childhood horse adventures 10+ years from now.
