Spyro: A Hero's Tail

Spyro: A Hero's Tail (2004)

by Eurocom Entertainment Software, Vivendi Universal Games
Genres:Platform
Themes:Action
Game modes:Single player
Story:Spyro: A Hero's Tail is the fifth console game in the original Spyro series and the ninth game in the series in all. Developed by Eurocom, it was the first game in the series for the Xbox, as well as the second game in the series for the PlayStation 2 and GameCube (with the former console release being the only one of the three to support widescreen). It is also the final installment in the original Spyro continuity for home consoles. This is also the first and only Spyro game to be completely produced in Europe. The game introduces a new antagonist, Red, a former Dragon Elder banished years before the events of the game, and sees the protagonist, Spyro the Dragon, attempt to defeat him with the aid of his best friend Sparx, Hunter the Cheetah, flying penguin Sgt. Byrd, and mole Blink, who are all playable.Show more

This is the best non-Insomniac Spyro game. It's not perfect, Spyro's jumps are floaty and some of the other characters control awkwardly, particularly Blink. On top of that, this game has a few bugs which had me scratching my head as a kid, particularly the map filling bug for Stormy Beach. Despite some of these gripes I have, this 6th gen 3D platformer is a good time. I replayed it as an adult after not having touched it for over a decade and despite not finishing it, I was shocked by how well it held up despite the jankiness, and I actually enjoyed it more as an adult than I did as a kid. I do have to admit though the writing doesn't hold up, these are def 2000s jokes alright. This game desperately needs a rerelease imo. I think it would be a decent game to play for anyone new to Spyro who liked Reignited and wants more of the purple dragon. I have no idea if we'll ever get a Spyro 4 or not, so I think a rerelease of this game would be a good compromise. A rerelease would also be a great chance to fix some bugs, if possible ofc.

Spider-Man 2
Spider-Man 2The N-Gage version of Spider-Man 2 is a 2D platformer, with some 3D races against time between the 2D stages. In the 3D races, Spider-Man needs to move higher or lower between buildings to avoid obstacles. The 2D levels are more traditional: climbing walls and ceilings, slinging webs at opponents, taking pictures for the Daily Bugle newspaper, using spider sense to reveal secrets, etc. The events are loosely based on the story of the Spider-Man 2 movie. The game offers fifteen 2D levels, five 3D levels, some Spider-Man comics' classical villains as bosses (like The Lizard, Rhino, and Doc Ock) and a scoreboard on N-Gage Arena.

Out of This World
Out of This WorldOut of This World (Another World in Europe) is a cinematic platformer that uses vector-based graphics and rotoscoped animations to deliver a minimalistic yet expressive visual style. It features a combination of action, platforming, and puzzle-solving mechanics, with a deliberate lack of HUD and textual guidance. Gameplay emphasizes trial-and-error, timing, and exploration, with a limited checkpoint system. In 2005, a homebrew port of the Atari ST version was released for the Game Boy Advance, officially allowed by Éric Chahi to be published with the original assets.
