by Delphine Software, FoxySofts, Interplay Entertainment, U.S. Gold
Genres:Adventure, Platform
Themes:Action, Science fiction
Game modes:Single player
Story:Out of This World (Another World in Europe) is a cinematic platformer that uses vector-based graphics and rotoscoped animations to deliver a minimalistic yet expressive visual style. It features a combination of action, platforming, and puzzle-solving mechanics, with a deliberate lack of HUD and textual guidance. Gameplay emphasizes trial-and-error, timing, and exploration, with a limited checkpoint system. In 2005, a homebrew port of the Atari ST version was released for the Game Boy Advance, officially allowed by Éric Chahi to be published with the original assets.Show more

This game introduced incredible animated cinematic sequences to the PC while distributed on a single floppy disk. The pinnacle of multimedia capabilities was sound cards with OPL2 chips like AdLib or Sound Blaster 2.0. At the time, it was the taste of the future.

This was one of my favorite games on the SNES. I think I still have the cartridge! I have both the 15th Anniversary Edition and the 20th Anniversary Edition purchased from GOG and it's really sad that the game no longer works properly. The 15th Anniversary version has some issues with resolution and menu selection and the 20th Anniversary version crashes as soon as you start the second level.
I purchased the GOG version as a backup to my MSDOS PC floppy disk version, in the early days of GOG. Good thing too...I no longer have a functional floppy drive! Another World is a fantastic example of the skills and techniques to tell an interesting story with fun puzzles. The rotoscoped scenes, animation, scenery and sound are the stuff of gaming legend. Someday, I might even get to finish the game!

Barbie
BarbieBarbie is a video game developed by Imagineering Inc based after the famous Barbie doll, created by Mattel Inc. It was created specifically as an attempt to entice more girls to play video games, and was one of the very few Nintendo Entertainment System games with girl-oriented themes. It was not a particularly well-received game at the time, but has received some recognition for having some quality puzzles and gameplay style. Others have criticized it for being an example of "pink" software; which refers to software that was designed for male audiences that is re-skinned for female gamers, without taking into account true female gamer preferences.
