Neopets: The Darkest Faerie

Neopets: The Darkest Faerie (2005)

by Idol Minds, Sony Computer Entertainment of America
Genres:Adventure, Puzzle
Themes:Action
Game modes:Single player
Story:Players control Tor and Roberta, two animal-like Neopets on a quest against evil. By switching between the two at any time, players can use Tor's up-close melee attacks or cause damage from afar with Roberta's spells. This game stays faithful to the traditional third-person action-adventure. Magical items and weapons gained along the way will develop the characters' abilities and strengths. In particular, elementally-aligned motes can be attached to weapons and armor as a combat bonus. There are many puzzles and side-quests along the way, and players will fight evil Neopets.Show more

Neopets: The Darkest Faerie was my childhood and one of my favorites. I remember always playing it constantly all the time back when it was first released. I love the story and the characters, especially the main protagonists (Tormund and Roberta).
This game is a core part of my childhood, and I always find myself revisiting it in some format every so often. Either listening to the OST, watching the old SMV clips, or even just digging out the PS2 just to replay this game. It's simple and buggy, but it still has a lot of heart in it from back in the day when Neopets actually cared about their IP. I hope that GOG is able to get enough votes to preserve this niche, but extremely enjoyable game 💜
Neopets was a big part of my childhood and I never got to try it because I didn't own a PS2 as a child. Something I would love to finally visit after nearly 20 years.
I never got to play this as a kid, and as a huge Neopets nerd who would have loved this game, I'm still upset about it. Please give me the chance to do so, especially since I'm once again hyperfixating on Neopets

Banger soundtrack--a lot of people don't know the Mass Effect composer worked on these tracks and they're as wonderful as you'd expect. Neopia is an iconic world for a lot of 90's/2000's kids, but Neopets was flash-based with big birds-eye-view maps; being able to actually run around the Neopian landscape in an action RPG was wonderful. It deserves some love and bugfixes.
This was one of my first PS2 games! Some of my favorite memories are of my sister and I playing for hours and swapping the controller depending on the character needed. She always played Roberta and I was always Tor! By far one of the best ways Neopets was brought off the internet!

I would love to have better graphics for this game. I still play mine on PS2. I have introduced this game to so many people, and now, Neopets are in again. Please release it for pc!
I had to rent the game from a video store way back in the day because none of the stores around were selling it. Absolutely fun game. So much nostalgia associated with Neopets.
This was one of the first video games I bonded with my younger brother over. I was an avid Neopets fan and he loved console gaming, so my mum bought this for us for Christmas and we played for hours. I have a lot of cherished memories of this game and have been desperately hoping to play it again, and this would be the perfect opportunity.
This is easily one of my favourite games of my childhood, and is probably one, if not, my most played PS2 game. I still remember how scratched the disc was after playing it so much hahaha. It's not particularly an amazing game, but it's such a fun and nostalgic game for me and many others. It just oozes charm, and has a lot of interesting ideas in it. It's essentially a very Legend of Zelda - esque kind of game, but not quite as good. However, it's definitely worth playing. The characters were very memorable, the soundtrack, the story, interesting puzzles, and surprisingly half decent voice-acting. Keep in mind though - this game's controls/combat is very, very clunky. Once you get used to it, it's manageable, but it's incredibly clunky and doesn't have too much depth to it. The main challenge for this game would be the bugs and maybe porting. This game has a ton of bugs, some rendering you unable to complete certain side quests and content, audio, glitches, etc. The worst bug, in my opinion, is the audio bug where if you play the game for over a certain amount of time in a single sitting, the sound effects and music just stops, for whatever reason. It forces you to restart the game each time to get the sound back, and just kills the immersion. I really hope GOG considers preserving this game, as it is a very fun game, and I could see a lot of people wanting to play this or giving it a try.
