Story:The story follows Goemon's struggles to prevent the Peach Mountain Shoguns gang from turning Japan into a Westernized fine arts theater. The plot calls for three cinematic musical features and battles between giant robots; like other Ganbare Goemon games, it is peppered with surrealist humor and anachronisms.
The protagonist of Mystical Ninja is Goemon, a hot-blooded, kiseru-wielding ninja with blue, bushy hair based loosely on the legendary thief Ishikawa Goemon. The lord of Oedo asks him to find those who maimed Oedo Castle. Goemon lives in Oedo Town and is friends with Ebisumaru, a strange, gluttonous fat man who wears a blue bandana. Ebisumaru is defined as lazy and perverted. Their kunai-throwing friend Sasuke is a mechanical ninja (made by the Wise Man of Iga) who enjoys hot baths and Japanese tea. Rounding out the heroes is Yae, a fierce sword-wielding kunoichi, who happens upon Goemon's band in Zazen Town. The villains of the game hail from the organization Peach Mountain Shoguns and include a gang of four "weirdos" led by Spring Breeze Dancin' (Danshin Harukaze) and Kitty Lily (Margaret Ranko). This game has been a favorite of mine since the day I first played it when I was a kid. It's an N64 title that is often overlooked when compared to its high profile competition, but thankfully it left an impression on many people who still remember it. It is an early 3D title and accomplished the format quite well, all things considered; it doesn't have quite the same masterful design as Zelda, or Mario, but it has a certain panache that makes it very endearing, and highly playable. It's also unabashedly Japanese, funny, and has a stellar soundtrack.
This game deserves to be on GOG because it's not available anywhere else. Even in its native home of Japan, Ganbare Goemon is not exactly relevant anymore. The N64 emulation is shoddy which makes it not ideal, and Nintendo never made a newer port of it. This game is way too good to be left in obscurity, and it could really use a once-over for controller support and OS compatibility. GOG is the perfect home for it.
Definitely one of my personal favorites from the Nintendo 64. It is considered a hidden Gem and well worth playing. Wish Nintendo made this available for the Switch but would be nice to see it be available this way. The only negatives I can think of the game is the controls are not great and could be improved, the camera needs to be better, and the game is pretty short and could be longer and maybe more open world and maybe add lore or trivia about Japan. Deserves to become wildly available.
When I was a child my mom bought me this game randomly one day and I fell in absolute love with it. Of course I was young and couldn't afford to buy a memory card, mom and dad didn't understand. So I plowed through the beginning hours of this game so many times I could run through them blindfolded.
Eventually I settled on leaving the console on to finally beat the full game, thankfully it wasn't too terribly long. I loved this game one of the few I got in those days, I still own some of my N64 games but not this one, a home invaider stole it and many others from me sadly.
This was my Blockbuster game that i had on repeat until i beat it so i could figure out what was going on with the game. Still don't know, great game with a lot of heart but awful camera that could definitely be fixed with a pc version.

Finally freed after many years, Zouna wastes no time in wreaking havoc and chaos over Marvel Land. Zouna unleashes his manifested darkness over the land, and lays waste to the countryside. Feeling confident in his reign, Zouna constructs his castle in which to preside over Marvel Land from. The peaceful inhabitants of Marvel Land cried out in terror as Zouna's manifested darkness came after them one by one. Zouna's darkness corrupted the hearts of anyone it came across, and possessed them against their wills. Once thriving towns and villages fell into ruination. Family members were parted from their loved ones. Only a few scattered towns remained standing; forming a last bastion in resistance to Zouna's dark invasion. A futile effort.
