Telika GOG aims at providing games in their original experience (original low tech versions), and liberated from tacked on limitations (drm). I am not sure why they consider censored games satisfying. Is removed or altered content so much better than drm restrictions ? The GOG versions of Fallout, Giants, Gobliiins feel incomplete because of such details. And the edited parts make no sense on a site that also sells unaltered "mature" games (like Carmageddon, Farenheit, Witcher). I suggest that GOG should (if it doesn't already) treat censored versions as temporary "stopgap measures", keep looking for the original versions with the same energy as for unavailable games, and replace them as soon as they can. Or even, make censorship a DRM-level point during their negociations with titles owners.
camilus If the game is only censored in some countries it should say on the page, that it's only possible to download the censored version of the game from your current country but if the same user uses a vpn to appear to come from another country with the uncensored version, let them download the uncensored one.

GlennMagusHarvey FYI if you check visual novels that have sexual content they often have a notice saying that the base game is censored but *also* have an uncensor patch DLC that you can see on the side.
ChrisOzzie I don't really care why GoG is censoring some games on their store. While I enjoy buying games here, I'm becoming more interested in Steam and other stores that offer uncensored versions of the same game. Please fix this GoG.

Tikkia If the owner of the IP only provides a censored version then there is only a cesored version avaible. If a countries government says you need to censor that content then censoring that content is abiding by laws and not censoring that content is illegal. Gog might not have much of a say in this people.

Serpent1989 More and more games are being censored on GOG and now I had just found out that GOG has a "pride month sale" these days. Typical socialist agenda, censoring everything that shows a little violence, while at the same time they try to promote stuff that only belongs to a very small minority, which does not get bigger and will always be a very small minority, no matter what kind of efforts the mass media and companies use in trying to shove it all down our throats every day. What's up with GOG, is this still a gaming website or a political website? We are here because we want uncensored and DRM free games and if you cannot deliver this anymore, then this will be it forever, at least for me. Sure, the opinion of just one user doesn't seem much of a deal, but imagine if plenty of other users may just do the same and I guess I won't be that wrong to say that this will be very likely the case.

rebb Actually, in the case of Carmageddon, i wish there was a way to buy the censored version instead. Because the uncensored original is not available to buy for german customers - BUT there existed a censored version with robots instead of human pedestrians. I wanna buy that :(

I doubt that they will do that, but this will be another proof of their lies (refund anything anytime with any reason). I will never buy a game that available on other stores until they will make an official statement and release Devotion and Detention on their store. Copy of my support ticket below:
"I've waited for Devotion release on GOG since it was unreasonable censored and put off the other stores. Then you've finally announced its release. And almost immediately backed off. You've joined the censors now and keep ignoring your customers for 10 days.

Tikkia If content censorship comes from legal requirements, tell us. If content censorship comes from current IP holders decision, tell us. If at all possible let us know where we can get a patch or mod to de-censor the content, even if only by letting us up-vote a review that gives us this information. Preferred method of this is to make the de-censored files an optional download so that those who want it can have it, and those who do not want it do not need to download it.

ironhide0 Strong language, female objectification and violence weren’t put into games as part of some grand artistic vision. They were added to shock, titillate, gain media attention and above all make money. As graphics and storytelling improve over the years, the cheap tricks used in old games begin to look childish and frankly a bit pathetic. I would want to remove these unfortunate instances from games that I might be associated with.
Kaliesto To add to my previous comment; will need to change the way how uncensored material is provided and that also means changing the way the ESRB, PEGI, and CERO operate as a whole so the Developers are not left having to fight a lost cause.
Kaliesto I'm going to try to take this conversation in a different direction; though I don't know what CDPR did set off this firestorm, but censorship will never be ok. Though I did sympathize if this has to do with the ESRB, PEGI, and CERO (CERO being the most corrupt) have affected the previous ratings then what can be done as a work-around is offering patches that provide uncensored material that the Account Holder on GOG be responsible to handle with care if said patch actually bumps up the Rating of the game. Of course this is on the Developer's personal decision whether he wants this or not.
I understand though there is some games out there that go way too far (a certain Japanese genre) that completely tainted the well in regards to censorship, and other games that simply have a hate filled message on the level of columbine.
Those particular games have really caused tension, and the developers behind them should be ashamed for that.

themazingness Personally, I'm a fan of options. Some devs include Gore toggles in their games, for example. If they have censored and uncensored versions, why not include an installer for both so you can choose which you want?
