plaplar For now GOG Downloader does not run under Linux, not even with Wine-like emulation. I would like to see GOG.com officially support a Linux client (maybe through existing community project ?)
BlackStar42X What do you mean by "downloader?" You can pick any downloader of your choice to download the software you bought.
Lore-Friendly One of the reasons I stopped using GOG and the client is that there is no native Linux support. Although while I was using Windows, I was an apologist for DRM free and GOG as a replacement for Steam in particular, trying to buy games in GOG.
Today I have Linux on both my laptop and PC, and I also have a Steam Deck. And although I can install each specific game from GOG via Wine or a third-party client, it is easier for me to use the ready-made functionality of Steam.
It would be nicer to have an official and native GOG client.

zombiefstuk I bought a Steam Deck OLED 1TB, Steam Dock, & aprox €350,00 of games from steam on the first day of the OLED release. I did this primarily to add weight to what Valve are doing (though I disagree with their EULA). GOG would be a better option for me but I not only want DRM free, but the option/ability to choose what platform I use. Valve is proving that not only is linux a viable platform for gaming, but that there is a growing market for it ... consumers who are tired of vendor (and hardware/OS) lock in, and expect to be treated as more than a revenue stream.
GOG should already be offering a linux client, and, like Valve, investing resources in improving this area, because they are a business and the market is such that many consumers would chose this option over those offered by Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft ... and, perhaps, Valve.
It wouldn't be too difficult for GOG to intergrate a client into SteamOS, it is a (mostly) open platform. The Steam Deck (and other PC handhelds ... and desktops) are similarly open. A "GogOS" could build on Valve's success, and tap into a pre-existing community of developers, enthusiasts, and users. There are at least two SteamOS clones for PC, and a variety of retro gaming OSes/UI's running on a wide variety of hardware ... including SteamOS (ie, EmuDeck). The fact that GOG *isn't* currently operating within this area, and that no client for linux exists, makes little sense, it is a market that GOG could (with some limited investment) tap.
u9vata I honestly thought this must have been sorted out already - but its not? What the hell... I also know that the games I bought run well on linux because I already were playing pirated copies just bought them because wanting to properly own the IP - but likely this way its easier to just pirate and install myself or when its possible just use steam... Honestly steam people / valve earns my money more because what they do for linux support....

KoKINGoK heroicgamelauncher integrates gog and epic on linux. please have a look. it would be nice for an official release, but this is the workaround i have used!

DocTaz Yes, please! Having an integrated, native client for Linux just makes perfect sense in 2023! True, some of us are happy to download the offline installers for games but giving us Linux users a native client would be a wonderful way to show your support for Linux gaming. Oh yeah, integrating that client with Wine is a huge plus. DO IT! GET 'ER DONE!!!

basfriends I just bought a game on GOG, and the page of the game mentioned Linux support. Then I found that the official GOG client doesn't support it? I must admit that I feel a bit misled, please mention at the game pages that they cannot be installed with the official platform (or... just fix this situation? It cannot be that hard :))

stardust_will At this point I'm considering moving on with Steam Proton, and stop buying games here, I really love GOG but the lack of Linux support make me not want to move to Linux completely. I like the savegame sync and achievements, would be awesome to centralize my game lib in just one place. Please CD, there already an ongoing project, the downloader works fine, so it's not impossible to make an official downloader even wwith less functionality, I want to continue using GOG as my main gaming store!
temps More Linux support is always a good thing. I am personally using Windows 10, but more and more I've been thinking about moving to Linux... so I always like seeing more games in particular that support Linux even if I'm not CURRENTLY using Linux.

ragkousis it is sad to not have linux binary, because i want to be able to play some witcher 2 on my ubuntu installation and not having to go to windows just to play for 20 minutes... plus i want to have one save file and not having to migrate.

I also have quite a few games on GOG and would Love to play them through GOG launcher in Linux (I'm Using Pop OS 20.04)
