Serpent1989 My gaming computer, assembled in December 2014, still has Windows 7 and I just love it since my first day with it. Before that Windows 98 was my favorite, while Vista was, in my opinion, a first step into the right direction, after the horrible Windows XP that crashed so many old games after the installation of Service Pack 2, but Windows 7 was and still is the pinnacle to me. I also got a notebook with Windows 11 since February 2022 and before that I've had a notebook with Windows 10, so trust me when I say that I know the differences between all these versions and that Windows 7 is still the best. Windows 7 is clean, simple and during the almost nine years I was using it I’ve never had any troubles with it, no bugs, no crashes, no bluescreens, only pure perfection. So yes, I also support the wish that the games on GOG should stay Windows 7 compatible, when it comes to the revived classics of course, because new games, although I am not interested in those anyway, are unlikely to still run on Windows 7, if the developers have not programmed their new games for a Windows 7 usage.
andreasaspenberg2 while i support this. many games secretly works in windows 7 even if requirements say windows 10 or 8. requirements is not absolute. you are welcome to test a game in windows 7 to see if it runs there.

crogonint Yes, BUT fix the ones that make people think that DosBox and Scumm is broken, and keep up with community patches for games that are already listed first.
THEN look at increasing compatibility for Win7.
I would personally like to see every game which is not Win7 compatible, requires DirectX 10 or above, a dedicated graphics card, or anything over 512mb of video RAM stricken from the official GoG list, and put somewhere else until it IS compatible.
I am SICK TO DEATH of needing to review every single game on GoG, every single time I consider buying it, to figure out IF I can even play it!!
Kominto Most Window games should work on XP,7,8 and 10 without too much problems. But yhea, it would be nice if GOG fixed the ones that doesn't.

While there is 'room for improvement' I'd like to point out that 18 unsupported games out of 2086 is quite good. Just FYI, (again, according to MaGog) Linux currently has 1,376 unsupported games...
Spawnspectre I'm assuming those with compatibility problems are either:
1-laptop players that have the Nvidia Optimus or AMD equivalent, which forces the Intel integrated graphics to run instead of the dedicated card (Act of War crashes on those if you keep the cursor on the play field for more than 3 seconds, and several games get graphical glitches as well)
2-cases where the game runs perfectly except when using a gaming mouse on a very high resolution screen (Aquanox 2, Call to Power 2) but they're easily fixed by reducing your mouse's polling rate. Cheap mice might not need this, but gaming mice by default need their dedicated software to set it lower.
KnightW0lf Why do we even have a wishlist to make games work? they where already working on window 10 about 1-2 weeks before it came out i'm assuming they did it also with windows 7 and 8

FBG You could just keep your (very) old gaming rig (multi-OS) for classics and newer for, well, new games.
Staredown Is this a problem still? I've been running Win7 for close to a year now and I've never had a problem running any game I bought off GoG except for The Witcher and that wasn't an OS issue, it was a DirectX issue. What games is this a problem for?

If there is no way around losing compatibility with an OS please provide two versions for download, example: One for WinXP and another for Win7 & Win8.

tchitty3 While I haven't had any issues with games I've bought on GOG not being compatible with Windows 7, I would love to see the most recent Fallout games on here. Steam is a bit lazy, as far as making sure a game can be played on all systems before they sell it. And Bethesda? ...Well, Bethesda is just lazy, period. I bought Fallout 3 on Steam and have had to jump through so many hoops just to get a new game started, and the game hardly seems worth the effort.
Seeing that GOG, for me, has such a great track record with compatibility, it would be great if they could fix the problems that Bethesda refuses to fix.
HostileVigil I would love to be able to play the Longest Journey on my PC, especially with Ragnar Tørnquist and his team working on the third game, it'd be fun to play through the first and second games before then.

alexanderthegrea You guys should put a warning for which operating systems it will and will not work on. And a warning for what features are required. For example, i know a lot of people who bought Alan Wake [or the sequel] and couldn't play because apparently it can't live without multi sample anti aliasing.
Gaerzi Why should we worry about Windows 8? This version of Windows is especially loathsome. That it comes preinstalled on some computer is a reason to complain to your computer shop; not to GOG.
Nicole28 The only problem I have with Windows 8 is backwards compatibility for older stuff, not just on GOG. At least Windows 7 have an XP mode which you can install over and switch or some such, I think, on the professional version.

HiroProtagonest There are some of us who don't build computers from the ground up. I bought my computer relatively recently, and that means it came with Windows 8.
I mean, every game I've gotten so far has worked fine, regardless of whether it says Windows 8 compatible, but that's not an excuse for ignoring everyone who decided to not go out of their way to get Windows 7.

tmisiu Given that Windows XP will be completely EOLed next year and will no longer receive even critical security updates, it would be good if as many as possible games will be supported on Windows 7 by then.

Komiyan Yes, make them compatible with win7, especially those like Metal Fatigue where it is virtually IMPOSSIBLE to get any currently available form of the game to work, play-ably. Also try and rig multiplayer so it can work without issue (tried playing Total Annihilation with friends, all win XP can see eachother, but the win7 machines have difficulty seeing eachother, and win XP vs. win7 games simply don't work.)

DebateMe I'd like to see a GoG release of the original Dungeon Siege. I want to play the U5 Lazerus and U6 project mods but for the life of me I cannot get this game to play nice with my 64-bit win7.
FusIonX8 FYI most games you can get to play on Windows 7 with the compatibility setting... Right mouse click on the game >> go to the tab 'compatibility' and change it to XP sp3 or lower to get some one the games that are giving you issues... to work.
Justanne All I can say is "Yes please?" There is such a wealth of great old games to be played we need to keep them alive for the future.
Kemendil Whether you can run a virtual machine (properly) or not depends on your PC specs. I need a virtual machine because of some 16-bit programs that I use, but even though my CPU supports hardware virtualization, my motherboard does not. There is a hotfix that bypasses that, but XP mode runs slowly that way. It's OK for some dictionaries and the first Civilization, but I can't run any more demanding games properly.
KeyperOS While I'd wholeheartedly support any and all attempts towards supporting old software on newer hardware/OS I feel the need to also mention the now pretty wide-spread existence of virtual machines. It is now fairly easy to run a Windows XP box from within your Windows 7/8 installation and have a pretty wide array of options on how much RAM/CPU the box can use up to tailor it for certain specs. Just throwing it out there.

fruitloopy @ phlum- yes, newer games will no doubt run on Win7/8. but i thought this was about older games. it can be very hard to get older games to run on newer OSes. some older games will not run on modern hardware, even, let alone modern OSes. which is why quite a few i see people asking for (Blood Omen, for example. it doesnt run on XP and modern CPUs are too fast for it), are not on GoG yet (besides needing IP rights). yes, i know GoG tweaks the games so they will and they most certainly can be, but its not something that can be done overnight. nor is it easy with every game.
LunarLoony Fruitloopy, you must realise that GOG are now selling more newer games, some of which will have DX10/11 support and will be all the better for it. Plus, Windows 7 has a nice taskbar. :>
WHRM3 If your going to sell old games, you should expect them to run on the latest OS. Otherwise what's the point of GOG? You might as well buy an old copy of a game and play it on original hardware.
fruitloopy its a must to keep an extra PC around with XP on it (and perhaps Win95/98, as well, except its harder to find drivers for those last 2 OSes). you cannot expect all games to work flawlessly on Win7, nor expect GoG to get them to run good. it may be out of GoG's hands, as it could an issue with how the game is programmed. did any of you consider the consequences of upgrading to a newer OS? or did you all just jump on the Win7 bandwagon? do any of you even play games that require DX10/11? or, did you just go to Win7 because "everyone else does"? XP is still good to use for next several years and I haven't found a reason to move. even if I did, I would still keep a PC around with XP on it. its the only assurance to have that a game will be able to be played.
