GOG please CLEAN UP DUPLICATE ENTRIES under "Requested Games" feature.
It would so clear up the entire list. And is not something difficult to take care of.
Such duplicates can not only be found in the games section but also the functions section.
Also there are some active entries that should be completed
I can no longer hide duplicates if they exist across platforms. Sometimes they seem to copy even within a single platform. I have two copies of Grand Theft Auto III on Steam, according to GOG Galaxy, for example, but that's not the case.
Yep, merge them, and figure out some better way to add new games to avoid the duplicates!
I'm worried that the wishlist item that is better might get deleted in favor of a lesser quality wish of the same thing (mentioning less details or missing important information) so a merge would be better
how about just interfacing the community wishlist with a game database (igdb for instance)? then people would have to go through that database in order to add a game into the wishlist. That way, if someone tries to add a franchise instead of a title, the database would correct him, if someone tried to add a duplicate, GOG could easily show them the existing thread because IDing duplicates would be easier that way...
I really hope the GOG Team will flush/reset the forums and community wishlist when beta is over. We need to start over with a clean slate. Many gamers have OCD, so a clean and tidy digital gaming platform is important.
It's really easy to fix, "Pause" the wishlist, and just hire some moderators... some people would gladly do it for cheap (or even for free games) (including me), the wishlist is filled with duplicates, making things unusable for you AND for us...
You should really do something... Today it really look like you are loosing hope in GOG...
also people don't realize your supposed to ask for 1 game per wish which people been failing to do
(correct)
cod 1
cod 2
cod 3
(wrong)
cod 1,2,3
cod francise
probably the best way to do this is if they pause the wishlist so people can't add more stuff, it's probably for the best right now, also some of the community believe gog staff doesn't actually care about this because the wishlist is pretty much a gog meme at this point
Literally. GOG, hire me I'll do it.
Dear GOG team, I must have reported over 500 duplicates since I first registered here. None of which seem to be merged. Please have 'somebody' from your staff look at our duplicate reports. Or hire someone to do it.
Volunteer moderators?
why not add simple UI solution (url field(s))
which allows community interlink together the duplicates
then it will be easy to auto/manual merge those into one
thanks to substantial amount of links selected (crowd processing)
The existing feature to report duplicates is confusing. It says in the options "Report as Duplicate" which indicates that the current thread you are looking at is a duplicate and the original one (or the one with the most votes, whatever) is somewhere else. But then it says "Those wishes are duplicates o this one" indicating the opposite.
I agree. We should merge exact same wishes and add the votes of every each of them to the one which has the most votes already.
But don't just remove duplicate wishes along with its votes. Add them to the exact same wish which has the most votes already before removing duplicate wishes.
just alone Command & Conquer from collection to single game request has over 50 request and there is only 17 games in it
Probably needs to be look at again... plenty of duplicate spams on the wishlist as well :/
*correction* Options -> Duplicate
For those who haven't noticed, if you go to ANY wishlist item, you can now click "Duplicate" and add one (or more) duplicate entry URL's to the list, as well as a comment about what you are reporting. A solid reporting system should help the people cleaning up to find duplicate entries quicker!
Agreed! This is EXTREMELY important, and I'm glad to see staff commenting here as they are on board. The more duplicates, the less accurate feedback GOG receives. Just a thought- What if there was some form of master game title list to select from, if you don't see one you may add to it. Then you can be routed directly to the requested game to vote.
Life and Death 1 and 2 (57 votes)
Life & Death II: The Brain (32 votes)
Life & Death II: The Brain (13 votes)
Life & Death (22 votes)
Life & Death (26 votes)
Life & Death 2: The Brain (13 votes)
Combined: 163 votes
"relatively few votes overall yet still separate entries under Requested Games. I think especially for games like that it's important to get the votes combined to give the request more weight and presence."
Agreed.
Ciris, here are three sets that could be merged. Thank you.

Is it possible for features too ?
I thik I have something similar posted on here..
- checks
Thanks for tackling this! Even though this is one where the blame rests squarely on the users, not GOG.
Cleaning up the wishlist :) feel free to link me (in PMs or here) duplicate entries you've come across as I might not reach them all with over 20 thousand to look through, plus more appear each day ;)
Working on it :)
How often have I asked myself why they don't merge alle the votes for the same game into the first/oldest request and delete all others. Mysteriously the merging of votes was very possible suddenly with Grim Fandango > GF Remastered...
Hope this is addressed!
GOG should ban all users that keep spamming in the community wishlist and forums, then destroy all of their posts. Just today, I reported to GOG 10 spammers in the community wishlist (several posts):
luckly, GameMer, fjekwljk, seatbeter, jeglaedache, anewsites, shecasual, duveticaroma33, wasterbin and jimnumber.
Why not add a security feature such as CAPTCHA, this would render spambots useless... If you're wondering what I'm talking about, take a look at this link: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAPTCHA
Just report them and they will come to the attention of the staff.
All the wishlist threads are invaded by huge walls of text in multiple languages, full of links, made by the same handful of spambots, and they've been here for days.
What's so hard with automatically blocking comments made with URLs to a list of blacklisted domains?
Agreed.
There are more than 5 different requests for the Star Trek Elite Force games.
Agreed, the duplicates are a mess.
Yeah just looked up Civil War Generals 2. And found five different requests all slightly differently worded. I feel like telling the GOG community...."If you've thought of an old game, so has someone else in the previous six years"
Need this most for game requests.
Makes me sad to see a vote split across 5 different versions of the same request.
There is "report duplicate" in the UI, but GOG rarely merge them, even after reporting.
This is really needed and the same is happening now under movies. Also what's the point of the report duplicate if nobody does not do anything about it.
Additional clarification: This should also merge unique wish votes. This way those who vote for only one wish don't have their vote thrown out.
This includes The Sims Series! There's about 4 requests of The Sims Complete Collection. It would be nice to combine the votes instead than getting rid of the request with the votes. It'll be nice to see some sense of what people actually thinks about some games. This also includes Grand Theft Auto series too!
I agree, merging the many duplicates would be nice. ^_^
Almost every game I've voted to request has multiple entries for the same game. I always try and use the built in feature to report duplicate entries but I definitely agree with the below comments. People will just keep forgetting to search first and then start duplicate requests unless they improve the Request Game feature. I agree with the suggestions for improvement below. Making a more visible reminder for people to search the current request list before posting a new game request and/or building in a search feature that looks for similar titles already requested and prompting people to vote instead of re-posting if their request is already listed are both ways to improve the Community Wishlist quite a bit. These things could actually apply to Requested Site Features too, I notice there are multiple similar entries to this one of people wanting a better system so votes for similar requests can be consolidated both for games and site features. Search "duplicate" under site features and a bunch of similar entries come up about this. GOG is probably busy working on the full launch of Galaxy but it would be awesome if they could try and improve all this at some point.
I think it makes a lot of sense for GOG to address this in some way. They could get a more accurate picture of how many people want a particular game and be able to present this number when negotiating to get these games.
having just made this request I see the link I included above to the Revenant wikipedia entry has an extra comma at the end. So if you click on the link just take the extra comma off the end of the URL and you'll get to the right page.
Recently I tried to post a link in a forum and was denied, presumably because I've barely touched the forums. At that time I had north of seventy games in my collection, ignoring the various freebies, so I have to assume that it was strictly due to my negligible forum. I am currently able to post links just fine now, even though my forum rep is only slightly less negligible than it was before.
Would that work for the wishlists (and reviews)? Denying people the right to post links anywhere, not just the forums, until they manage to earn a paltry bit of Forum rep? I think that might be the simplest way, though that does mean you will have to 'grind' forum rep until you can get links
I don't think GOG does look at the reports, which is probably why we're still seeing these spambots on here, in reviews, and in the forums. GOG must realise, as others do, how it degrades the site to have them on, and that it can put many people off.
The best solution to deal with all spam is still to prevent any user account from posting anything until they've made at least one purchase. It will deal with the spammers in an instant. Plus, others will know that those posting reviews will have bought at least one game from GOG.
I've been wondering about myself, since I have reported the same account a couple dozen times over the past two months, and all there posts are still there.
same with games tbh
