Don't sell games that have DRM
I'm new here, I just made an account yesterday. From my understanding, DRM free is 90% the point of GOG, the rest being to preserve old games and keep them playable on modern hardware. Honestly, the fact that this is even a community request is a bit disappointing, because it means that GOG has deviated from one of its core values. That was the whole reason I came here, and now I almost wish I hadn't. I wonder if the $200 worth of games I bought yesterday are actually drm free.
I agree on the guy below me.
To add, just because a game can TECHNICALLY be played offline in single player mode, doesn't mean it's necessarily complete. When publishers lock say certain items or missions (that have NO reason to be server connected only, obvs multiplayer is different) to only accounts that have logged on then that is sneaky DRM.
Unless a game can be played completely offline with an alternative way to get these items or missions then it cannot be classed as DRM-Free or OFFLINE-ONLY.
Requiring account sign-up just to play singleplayer? NO! Stop it!
It's ONLY thanks to the good gamers who post reviews mentioning the underhanded shizz that I still browse the store, but it seems my wishlist and purchases grow less and less thanks to them.
I only play single player and in that case, I think all games are DRM free.
I get people wanting this, but as a company revenue is needed.
If GoG grows a lot and represent a decent market share, surely it will be able to offer more games and be more adamant about DRM, even some games will drop DRM to publish a version on GoG.
As long as this is not the case, I get they put an effort to get more revenue, they are small fry guys.
I'm an absolutist on this as much as I can be. I don't want any games to exist that exclusively depend on company servers for any reason. There should always be a way to continue operating the game without the company. It's insane to even make products which can't do this and they should not be made. The law should enforce this. Death to MMOs.
I wish for this, but some of the comments here seem very misled.
My sincere hope is that GOG will not cow to any publisher and actively refuses any DRM for a game without a live service component. DRM for the sake of DRM harms paying customers, and doesn't prevent piracy.
Games that are run on servers hosted by the developer/producer/publisher are what should be an obvious exception to this wish.
People complaining that games like No Man's Sky aren't DRM free are being a little harsh. The version of No Man's Sky sold by GOG is indeed DRM free. It works completely fine fully offline, and you'll never need to ask Daddy Gaben or anyone else for permission to play it offline(contrast to Steam's draconian requirement to ask permission once every two months).
While I can agree that LAN multiplayer would be a welcome addition, what we have with the current multiplayer implementation is not objectively worse. This at least allows full cross platform play with people anywhere in the world, and there's zero configuration required by the user. It's also strictly peer to peer once you're past matchmaking, meaning that either player can leave the session without interrupting the other's play. A server-hosted matchmaking service is not DRM for the sake of DRM, it's a great feature that necessitates some minimum level of account login. All that said, it would be great if No Man's Sky's developer and GOG could figure out how to allow it to work without a GOG Galaxy component, since this makes it feel more like DRM.
If you’re new to crypto investment or have been scammed from crypto investment, This is the best information. Many binary operations are rippers. I invested about 105,000usd then I decided to withdraw after several weeks but the withdrawal wasn’t successful, then I tried to contact the binary operation email and phone number, but I didn’t get any response from them that was when everything started looking weird. Some weeks later I got an email from them insisting I should invest more money if I wanted to withdraw my money which I rejected, and I never heard from them again that was when I knew I had been scammed. I was devastated at that moment and felt so bad that my hard-earned money was gone. After some months I came across a lot of testimonies on many bitcoin sites about how Fastfundrecovery8 @ GMAIL com had helped many people recover their stolen, scammed, or duped money on bitcoin or any other form of digital currency. I contacted them and they promised to help me get my money back and asked me for some personal details about the scammer which I provided. The result was amazing I recovered all my stolen money back within 48 hours I was so happy as I never believed I could get my money back. Thank you for restoring Joy into my life after much pain I’m so indebted!! You can contact them via their mail or WhatsApp ( 19037176241)

Okay, GOG has clearly gotten a bit clownpilled. I know, it might be a big ask to stop selling Age of Wonders III and many other titles, but they've clearly lost their heads up their own buttocks.
absoultely do NOT buy DLC's as even if the ;core game does not they do(and here!) require ALWAYS on "phoned home every two weeks" yes mother please don't spank me for being late!" pollitics on lots of new games! for instance, North Atlantic Fishing, No Man's Lie"!
couldn't put it better myself! and also GOG needs to quit being so Cryptic about the fact and using big catch words. and instead WARNINGS! or rather, still, just strip it out and let us all know in a news letter on the homepage!
If it has DRM, might as well just buy it on Steam. The entire point of GOG is DRM-free gaming.
I'd like to think and Gog say games are DRM FREE- I don't' use galaxy as getting too like steam. i.e. I want to play a game I paid for without all the faff and immediately without downloads immediately on booting up as in Steam where one is not told what they are and ignore questions. So I'm downloading the Gog DRM files ONLY. Yet on file inspection they have GALAXY dll files. WHY. So rather suspicious to say the least. I closed down steam losing many games as they would not answer my questions as Offline never worked for long. etc. I see no good reason why galaxy.dll files are in the DRM only downloads if truly DRM FREE. I hope there is nothing nefarious. So far 100% to gog.com they do answer my questions so far and content getting better .I feel developers are starting to see Steam as too powerful a monopoly as force stuff like steams monitoring, data gathering and unknown large downloads for fully patched up games, how many hours one plays etc.
All DRM should be nuked.
GOG keep moving the goalposts on what counts as "DRM".
Games with online-only multiplayer are sold as "DRM-free", and claim "No activation or online connection required to play." But BOTH an activation AND an online connection are required to play multiplayer.
Some games like Gwent have blatant DRM, but do at least admit that they have it. (Albeit in fine print that's easy to miss.) Other games like No Man's Sky also have blatant DRM, but get away with lying about being "DRM-free" on GOG.
These games are not DRM-free. Not even close. They have some modes you can play without being stopped by DRM, and other modes completely locked behind DRM. GOG is fundamentally a "selective DRM" platform at best, even by the most charitable description. Wish it really were "DRM-free", but it is not.
Some games like Baldur's Gate 3 are truly DRM-free, with offline LAN play available. But these are not clearly marked, and the extra homework to find out which games are ACTUALLY DRM-free is a huge pain.
Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous still have DRM? I don't want to purchase it, until I can be certain that DRM has been removed. I believe the reviews mentioned it is from the developer, but that is still DRM.
Personally I think they should sell DRM games but clearly show that the game is not free from DRM. Let the consumer make their own informed decision.
How do I find out in the store if a game is DRM free or not?
GOG should be free of DRM.
Too bad you all wanted this, Now die at GULAG.Kawk.
The ENTIRE reason I support and purchase games through GOG is because it's DRM free. If that changes, then what's the point of even buying games from GOG? Like most people, I do NOT like having to be dependent on a third party program and internet connection in order to play the games I purchased with my hard earned money. I want to freely play the games I purchased whenever I feel like playing them. Period.
DRM is a scam, you buy games but never really own them...GOG is king
plus 1... remove them from your shop! you gave away fck drm t-shirts and now destroy your brand
CD Projekt Red, remove the spam from here on Feb 2 2023, for fuck's sake.
Yes GOG. Stop selling games with DRM. It's the only thing you have going for you. When I tell my friends I buy on GOG they look at me like I'm speaking greek. If you make me install Galaxy for multiplayer or for any reason, I'm just going to buy on Steam. It's better in every way. I hate Steam, but you've betrayed me, and everyone else who cares about what meager software freedom we can claw from this world.
I looked up 'Fishing: North Atlantic - Scallops Expansion' as SilentBleppassin suggested and the reviews mention that "the DLC does not start without Galaxy".
GOG, what are you doing? DRM-Free is the only thing that makes your store different than your competitors.
SpellSword, look up the DLC for Fishing North Atlantic, sadly GOG sells DRM-Unfree games
The lack of DRM is why I shop here. GOG Never forget that this is what makes your store different.
For Visual Novels, prefer their sites, like JAST. They are 100% drm-free there and unlike gog, you get them fully uncensored at their source.
Listen to me GOG: my only two reasons to go through your website is to support game developers plus the extra % for your job and to digitally own games without pay twice or more for games that I buy once, except If I move from PC to console. SO dont do shit with me otherwise I do class action. I do believe in your statement, dont do shit to follow money, or you are gonna lose them at the end.
Damn... That's happening now? From every store page:
Why buy on GOG.COM?
DRM FREE. No activation or online connection required to play.
Safety and satisfaction. Stellar support 24/7 and full refunds up to 30 days.
i see now the list: www.gog.com/forum/general/drm_on_gog_list_of_singleplayer_games_with_drm/page1
could you guys provide an example of GOG game with DRM? I'm afraid this thread is built on nothing
actually I see a note on the F.E.A.R page saying "NOTE: Online multiplayer functionality for this game has been disabled and is no longer accessible. Multiplayer is available only through a LAN connection."
Therefore it seems DRM has been removed alongside multiplayer.
GOG is now selling games with DRM? Sigh. And here I was hoping to move (aka re-buy) my Steam library over to GOG.
I'm not interested in multiplayer modes. Give me DRM-liberated single player content or give me digital death!
With games that are DRMed, GOG is not being GOG. It's that simple.
That'd be a real shame. I removed my Steam accounts ever since finding out (thanks to Overlord Gaming btw) that you're essentially leasing a copy or subscribing to a game while on the Steam Shop. I didn't really care about DRM in the past but I stand for ownership over games and despise this practice and concerted push by this industry to rip people off. We want to own things. You get it.
Because of their greed for money and lust for control, we absolutely refuse to do any business with Valve or Ubi.
Only reason I buy games (instead sailing the seven seas with the Black pearl) is DRM freedom. I have had game removed from library by Steam/Ubisoft and I have had problems to start legally owned game and had to use ... other means to get them work. GOG allows me to buy and own a game without need to worry about the nonsense. Although there is one DLC I own in GOG and cannot use due DRM error... (deus ex mankind divided) ... more so Denuvo company was caught on stealing intellectual property themselves... Also Denuvo is massive resource hog and acts like a malware.
DRM and microtransaction are the most foul thing ever created for video games. Especially digital games that exchange money so much more intimately then physical copies. You get the money directly from the customer but they still need your permission to play it every time and you still want to make them pay for stuff while they play it? Stop it!
Same!
F.E.A.R Is on sale on the GoG store, yet seems to carry active DRM.
Either remove the game from the store or make an effort to contact the publisher, Tell them to drop the DRM and see sales.
If you change the definition so your not lying, your still lying and just became a steam knock off.
Please stop selling games that have multiplayer that require an account. It forces me to do a ridiculous amount of research before each game I purchase. If a game is here it should be possible to play without 3rd party consent, if that's not possible, it's not DRM-Free. +1
+1
who cares
This should really go without saying, but evidently it did not.
The only reason to buy anything with gog is if I can't get it anywhere else, and if it is DRM free. With this recent corporate message of everyones different idea behind DRM proves you are not holding yourself accountable for what is supposed to be the core premise of your store. If you are selling games that have DRM to make some more money, you are just a poor mans steam. I was really hoping to make a full or at least partial conversion but I don't see much of a point when this issue is still occurring.
There is three reasons I‘m buying on GOG: 1. Most of the games are made to work on Win 10 (better than Steam or Steam just got compatible versions through the work of GOG) 2. DRM-free: Am I right in thinking that means not just buying a licence the licence giver could rewoke at any time but buying the game data for my personal use (yes no selling or misuse as if I would have developed it- thats a no brainer) without the publisher ever having the right to take being able to use it from me as long as GOG is alive and I‘ve already bought it? And so as a result no right for the publishers for technical surveillance to constantly check if I‘m allowed to use and no need for me to constantly prove that I have the right to use it- so real ownership protected by law of many countries? Or am I living and dreaming an utopian dream? 3. Easy-Way to get and use old games today on modern hardware and suporting the game and a possible successor today: Bringing old games that were only released physically and are hard to come buy to digital use on modern systems
When a game interacts with a multiplayer server it's out of GOG's control what the people hosting the servers choose to do. However, single player mode needs to stay DRM free and spyware free. To own something it has to work for you not against you. Horizon Zero Dawn and other games having un-opt-out-able spyware is unacceptable.
Given their recent announcement (GOG 2022 update #2), it's now clear they have no intention of fulfilling that wish.
We will keep the games' history with no DRM!
