Achievement support for compatible games in progress
Honestly, as old as this is... yeah. Back when I got the Xbox 360, I was obsessed with gamerscore and achievements. That went down over time, but if GoG.com brought Achievements to their catalog of modern games, I'd be much more interested in buying games more often on GoG than on Steam.
Achievements are literally the only reason I've been using Steam. The lack of achievements is the only reason I haven't been buying games on GOG instead.
I support the addition of achievements. They have zero effect on those who think they are "unnecessary", they don't need to pay attention to them so I do not get the moaning about having an extra feature that they won't use. If it brings more people to the platform and gives a reason for some to KEEP playing games looking for extra incentive to do things in game they never considered then it should be done. I will continue to ignore anyone who says they don't think it is necessary because THEY don't want it. It's a very selfish mindset and obviously the question of whether they should be added is not for them, full stop.
This would be great! Achievements are a lot of fun! But instead of just add the achievements on games that already have on Steam, GOG could invest in achievements for games that DON'T have achievements on Steam! This way people will have one extra motive for buying it on GOG.
I will start buying games on gog if achievements are available. For now i spent my money on steam, just because gog doesnt offer this simple feature. I will switch from steam immediately if achievements are available.
Achievements are another way to make the game experience more interesting for players. Please expand your support of achievements for as many games as possible!
One of the reasons I rather buy games on steam is because they have achievements there, and I like comparing achivements with friends as well as replaying games an completing all the achievements. If there were achivements in gog, I'd buy more games here.
I personally don't want this. Achievements feature are such
an unnecessary thing and provides no real added benefits eg, ( costumes, buffs or equipments ).
So much needed
Definitely would like achievements added to games, especially if they are available on steam/epic. Epic recently made their own achievements for games and GOG can just do the same.
It is a little disappointing to see CDPR games like Witcher 2 have achievements on stream but not at home base GOG. Achievements are a nice to have but provide a sense of how much of the game you have explored/have yet to explore which is helpful to have.
There isn't anything wrong with achievements, they're just a nice added collectible that adds more replayability to games. If you don't care about them, just ignore them, that's all it takes.
If you don't care about achievements that's fine but because other people do then why not support it? Having achievements won't negatively effect your experience if you ignore them but plenty of people enjoy them like they do with collectibles.
So even if you don't care about achievements, you should support adding them because other people enjoy them and it'll help the GOG community as a whole.
Also steam's achievements are weak and lacking compared to the system used on consoles, this can be an opportunity to pull in the achievement hunting crowd.
Why do ppl want achievements even for old game? It doesn't make sense to me. Wow, having a little silly phrase next to a thumbnail is that special? I say no achievements.
A lot of people like achievements, some of them won't play games with no achievements nowadays
Definitely want this. They could even add their own achievements to the older games not even available on Steam. This will help get more people onto their platform, it will improve the experience of playing games on GOG even more. Achievements are always fun and help encourage replayability.
Achievement hunters are a solid part of the gamers community and it would totally increase sales rates if achievements would be available at least for those games which have them on other gaming platforms. The other very needed thing is better analytics of own overall progress and ability to view others progress too. If these two factors where met, it would be a great stimulus for me and thousands of other achievement hunters to completely switch to GOG, I'm sure about that! GOG is great platform but it just lacks some features that achievement hunters value the most so some potential customers are still not here and I hope you will do your best to attract them!
I know that a lot of GOG games support achievements, but there are still a lot of others that don't support the achievement lists they have on other platforms like Steam or XBL. I also know that the GOG system doesn't work quite perfectly as I beat Wolfenstein the New Order on the second to highest difficulty and didn't unlock a bunch of achievements I should have received.
I love buying my games on GOG, and would love if achievements were added to every game that has them elsewhere and I'd even be enthusiastic about GOG adding their own achievements to older games. Some people may consider them unimportant, but I find them a fun part of playing.
Achievements is the only barrier from me buy this game on GOG. I still don't know from this post, so I'll likely go with Steam.
100% this, only thing that stopped me from buying Cyberpunk on GOG, I need my achievements
Please, please, please. This it's what almost always stops me from trying certain game in certain store(s). It's great the feeling of having acomplished something, having something to do or look foward to get done.
Mafia III
I agree completely with this request. A reason that sometimes I won't buy games on GOG is because they don't feature achievements, even though the same game on Steam or consoles features an extensive list of achievements. I understand that some people may not like achievements, but I do like them and believe they extend a game's lifespan. I also care greatly for my profile on gaming platforms, and having achievements in it is big pro for me when it comes to the decision of buying games.
The Witcher 2 (a game developed by the company that owns GOG) doesn't have its achievements in the GOG's version, even though it does in other versions. SOMA doesn't have its achievements on GOG, but has them on Steam and the PS4. Amnesia, Outlast, and many others follow this pattern. The nay sayers can just not play for achievements, it's as simple as that, they can just ignore them, but please GOG, implement achievements for games that already support them elsewhere.
I like GOG and I want to see it grow, but sometimes when features like this are neglected, they push me away from buying titles that I usually would on the platform. Even if the only way to make this is making it only compatible with Galaxy, I do not mind, but please have an external achievement system on GOG for every game that has achievements elsewhere.
Wait, wouldn't that require to add a form of DRM to the games, so they can send informations to GOG (such as achievements)? Also, why do peoples care that much about having their achievement showed on their profile? If you want to brag about your achievements, just take a screenshot of the achievement page in-game.
IF (!!!!) this achievement-shit get´s added, please make it optional. I actually went of all systems, which rely on this stuff. If it were optional, I would not have a problem with it. But I like my gaming experience without any of this crap. Sorry for the harsh language, but achievements are hell to me.
Lack of support of achievements is the #1 reason that motivates me to buy a game on Steam rather than on GOG. I love that GOG allows to buy DRM free games, and because of the DRM-free promise strive to buy my games on GOG whenever the GOG version supports achievements, when the game doesn't have achievements (old games), or when the achievements are pointless (complete chapter #1, #2 ...) .
But I'm increasingly attracted to indie games and in particular roguelike and roguelite games that offer the most challenge and replayability. These are very hard games, almost punitive, and the entire point of the game is to push a little further at every runthrough to unlock collectibles and achievements, push one's highscore a bit farther, and maybe make an entry in the leaderboard. Just look at a game like Tales of Maj'Eyal where you are going to die and die and DIE and DIIIIIEEE and all that you have left is memories of what your characters have achieved in their ridiculously short life. TOME has got thousands of achievements to celebrate the most unlikely situations that arise from the mind-boggling number of possibilities that the game generates, they are FUN, and although GOG claims that it supports TOME achievements, it in fact doesn't. Very disappointing.
GOG, if you are serious about selling new games including indie games, please get your s*** together and make sure that every game that you accept on your platform and that has achievements on Steam also implements achievements on GOG. Maybe you should create a standard and open-source achievements API that, when used in a game, posts achievements on both Steam and GOG, and encourage developers to use that API instead of store-specific APIs. Either way, please focus on achievements. If other customers are like myself, you'd be surprised at how much of the market share you'll be able to capture if you implement properly achievements and social features.
Allow one GOG account per controller (game pad) on the same PC so every user has individual achievements and display it's username, just like in game consoles.
This is the list: www.gog.com/games?feature=achievements&sort=bestselling&page=1
Is there a list for which games have achievements?
WITCHER 3 GOTY NO ACHIEVEMENTS NOTIFICATION!! NO POP UP PLEASE HELP
Definitely, I don't even know why this isn't already a standard around here, not a programmer, so not sure how complicated it is to implement, but I'd guess you just have to copypaste the Steam or console achivements over to GOG :P
It is a must. Hope you guys add this, I want to put steam behind! Thanks.
Just make the developers use the same achievements than with Steam. I didn't buy a few games on GOG because the Steam versions have interesting sounding achievements. If the price is similar I go with the version with achievements if they are more than "finished level 1".
It would be great if there was some kind of tier division for achievements (like the bronze, silver, gold and platinum trophies on PSN). They just feel more rewarding that way :)
I've got almost 1000 games now on Steam. The only games I pick up from GOG are those that are exclusive to GOG. DRM free is a nice feature to be sure but at this point I'm confident my Steam collection is never going anywhere so the real driving force at this point for purchasing games on Steam over GOG, aside from sale price, is for the achievements. I think it would be a great investment on your part to add them to your library and give gamers more incentive to adopt a larger GOG library other than exclusives.
Achievements would be great. Especially if there was a way to incorporate them into those old games I love. I would replay the entire Quest for Glory series again another eight times just for that.
I know a lot of people whose only reason for not using GOG is the lack of Achievement implementation. Getting it up-and-running is a huge undertaking, but is worth it because it will drastically increase GOG's customer draw.Plus is fun to see your progress in games in Achievement form.
Achievements in Old Games, too? please!
We want achievement support.
Hi all,
We've marked this wish in progress as we work with developers who are willing to add achievement support to their past and future games :)
Would love to see some achievement support for games on GOG. Also really looking forward to the overlay feature.
If publicity of achievements were under the player's control, then I'd support achievements for whoever sees some value in them. That way I can make any achievements I achieve in the games I play private, viewable only by myself when logged into the website. Otherwise if I can't do that, I'm opposed to the feature.
please show a notification in-game for achievements, that would be soo cool
Yeah, it seems my GOG galaxy no longer works for my withcer 3 achievements.
Well we need achievemnts now ffs........why would i replay Witcher 3 if i get no achievements?
I can enjoy a game very much, without achievements. But the achievements add a layer of longevity to the game, and tbh can be a really fun addition in it itself. Im not obsessed with them and often skip them, but it CAN be alot of extra fun. If I had to pick, Id pick the version with the achievments, even if it may cost me a dollar or two more. This is where Im at right now, seing some great summer sales at GOG but will get the more expensive version from that "other" provider. Because its all about the best gaming experience in the end right. Add achievemnts please! I want my library of games here at GOG instead
Folks it's coming already. It's called the game overlay and it's already listed as an upcoming feature. Great times ahead!! :)
Add achievement notification in game please.
The Witcher 3 has achievements. What we need are in-game achievement notifications please!
Imagine there's no Witcher... Above us only Fallout and Arcanum achievements... It's easy if you try...
Yes please! Achievements still don't work for The Witcher 2, despite they are listed in GOG Galaxy .
