How does the rating of reviews work?
Is marking a review as "helpful" the same as agreeing with it? It seems that that is the case, as it increments the number of people that are displayed agreeing. And how are the votes count, that don't find the review helpful?
I find it a little confusing, since agreeing with a review, does not necessarily mean that I find it helpful to me and/or other people.
The thing that adds to the confusion, is that the review marked with "most helpful" is not always the one with the most agree-votes. How does that add up? Could it be a bug?
For examples, see the reviews for

instant: How does the rating of reviews work?

In short (*): we calculate "positive votes / (positive votes + negative votes)" for each review. For each game, a review that's closest to 1.0 is marked as most helpful.
Basically it gets down to the number of negative votes and that's why occasionally a review with 10 positive votes is ranked as "most helpful" while a neighbor's review with 20 positive votes isn't. I understand it can be confusing, as we're only showing the number of positive votes instead of positive : negative ratio.
____
* the algorithm is obviously a little bit more complicated, as calculating positive / total wouldn't work well with a reviews with the only one, positive vote (they'd be instantly marked as most helpful). Also, the number of votes is taken into account as well, but the core is positive / total. I hope this helps :)

instant: However, I would relly suggest that you'd write "x users find this review helpful", as it would take care of the following dilemma: I agree with some of the very short (sometimes only one line) reviews concerning content and score. However, I don't find short reviews like that of any use to me and to people who don't know the game.
Hope you understand what I mean. Thanks again for the precise answer.

Sure! We're planning a small refresh of our product pages later on, and we'll be looking into reviews system as well, adding some tweaks here and there ;), so thanks for the suggestion!
