Navagon: Why do I get the feeling we're not going to find out what happened here?
Let me assuage your ill-omened feeling. Interplay is involved in a kerfluffle over the rights, so they have asked every digital distributor--which includes GOG--to delist the game. Once things have settled down, we'll look into offering Hostile Waters for sale again.

Everyone who's purchased Hostile Waters will still have it on his or her shelf and will continue to be able to download it as desired. We're sorry if this has ruined your plans for a Hostile Waters-themed LAN holiday party or whatnot, but we don't know yet whether the title will be removed from GOG or not in the end, so we haven't made a formal announcement.

We'll keep you updated as we know more.

DrIstvaan: Unfortunately, we probably won't get any official response anytime soon, being near to Christmas (because they've proably started their vacations already) and all, but may my prediction turn out to be not true.
Oh ye of little faith. :P

Smannesman: Well, I can understand immediately taking down the game if it's a legal/license battle.
Waiting a day might tick them off, but posting a message when taking it down (or just after) would be very nice.
Yeah, we usually have to take down an item from our catalog fairly promptly when asked. So a quick notice that we're *going* to do so is not practicable. That said, I'll be sure to mention y'all's comments to the team--if we ever have to take down a game again.

DrIstvaan: ...or of experience-taught caution, hmm? :-)
I can agree that in the great hubbub of GOG's community, it's very easy for us to miss out on something that's been said. Part of my duties as the new PR & marketing guy involves trying to be a little more visible, so I hope I'll be able to answer questions for you guys when they pop up. That said, there are plenty of things that we can't talk about, so the delay on answers may sometimes be longer than you'd like while I wait to hear back from a responsible party.

Wishbone: You were very good at this in the beginning, but somewhere along the way, it seems to have ceased being a priority. I wish you would make it one again.
My new arrival here as marketing and PR guy is for many purposes. Fostering continued and improved community relations are part of that. Hopefully GOG will astound and amaze in 2011--in a good way.

And apologies to SLP2000 whose post I downvoted by accident when clicking on the window behind the pop-up in which one composes a message. I *think* my immediate upvote should nullify any bad rep that accrued from my fumble-fingered click.

As a side note, the lack of a good second person plural pronoun in English vexes me again. (Y'all? Youse guys?) For a language with so many words, it's silly English doesn't have that one.

SLP2000: I can imagine the situation that GOG is taking of Planescape Torment or Fallout without previous announcement - I think we would hunt you down and rip your hearts out for this. Seriously. ;)
If we delisted one of those games without forenotice, we'd already be heartless. :P
avatar
Lexor: But yes, I will not know what to do when P:T or Fallout leave GOG without any notice and before I buy them.. SLP2000 has presented one of ideas I could go for.
You're in Poland, too. Crap!

Stuff: Don't know where y'all are from but . . .round here the plural for "Y'all "is "All Y'all" . . .=)
But if "y'all" is short for "you all" (which seems plural to me), then "all y'all" is a plural plural. Does that make it wrap back around to a singular? :P

avatar
HomerSimpson: Again, this is all meant constructively, because I sincerely want to see GOG succeed.
We're always happy to hear suggestions from you guys. I saw someone wondering in the suggestion box thread a while back if anyone actually reads and cares about your thoughts. Yes, we do--and yes, we do. But GOG has grown tremendously in the last year, and we're feeling some growing pains. We're doing what we can to keep all of our users delighted with the service, and we hope you'll continue to be a part of the community in 2011--and beyond!

avatar
taczillabr: Hey, what about Operation Flashpoint GotY edition, which also got removed?
That was waaaayyy before my time, but I'll ask around about it. It looks like it's been gone for over a year, so I wouldn't get my hopes up that it's going to make a speedy return soon.

avatar
chautemoc: Could you add stickying stuff (especially in game forums) and updating stickies as part of that? Please? Or hopefully some volunteers can be appointed sooner than later for this purpose. It's sorely needed.
I believe we're finishing up planning for 2011's changes to the community's user experience right now. I don't know if that's on the list (UX isn't marketing's bailiwick), but I'll bring it up.
So Wikipedia's answer is that some people think it's singular and some think it's plural? Wikipedia, I am disappoint.

Orryyrro: Well, you by itself can be plural, so, y'all is already a plural plural, all y'all would be a plural plural plural. if the thread is going to be necro'd i must discuss the least important part!
You itself is only plural because you can't make a second person plural in English. Thus the discussion over "y'all" and "youse".
Holy Necro-posting, Batman!

Yeah, I haven't put much thought into this one for a while. I'll ask around tomorrow at the office and see what's going on.
It remains in legal limbo. Sorry about the long wait, folks, but the legal system was never accused of being quick.
Philology, man. How does it freaking work? :P
