A pre-paid option in GOG.com checkout!

Yesterday, we've introduced a new payment option into GOG.com checkout, namely Paysafecard. The ability to complete your order using a pre-paid type payment method was one of the site features you requested quite often via e-mail, forums, social media, and even our own community wishlist. We decided to go with Paysafecard, which is the European market leader in online prepaid solutions. Not sure what pre-paid means? It means that you buy a physical card from one of 450,000 sales outlets available and use it to make safe online payments without a bank account or credit card.

How to utilize this new feature? Easy! After clicking the 'Process order now', you will be redirected to the Paysafecard page to complete your order. (Please note that we charge in US Dollars, and, if a currency exchange is required, Paysafecard will charge an additional fee.)

You can read more about this payment option on the official Paysafecard website. You can also use the site to easily locate a retailer offering the Paysafecard near your location. Hope you'll enjoy this new feature!

No, the card is also available through many US-based retailers. You can locate an outlet near your location here.

D-ROCK: Yes! So it's like a pre-paid visa gift card you buy at let's say supermarkets. Eases the mind in terms of financial security. Thank you GOG! I say this even though I don't live in Europe. So is this just a European payment method? Thanks for explaining!

viranimus: I live in the US. I hold a mastercard.Because I live in the US and GOG has their transaction clearinghouse through Cypress, My bank by default automatically refuses transactions through GOG. I have had to contact my bank to get them to repair such issue and they cite it being an automatic "protection" because they state the higher number of fraudulent transactions that go through countries like cypress that the US does not have top tier diplomatic relations with. Also, Paypal is no alternative either considering that the credit card will hold the same restriction regardless if it is direct or through paypal if the funds go to one of their "flag" countries...

Orlim: Thank you for citing this issue.
I am still baffled. I am a dual citizen of the US and Germany and have accounts in both countries. I have never ever had any kind of payment issues with Chase, Bank of America, Postbank or the Sparkasse.
I was also not aware that Visa or Master were nationally supervised. They are global traders with their own fraud detection tools. I would have run in to that issue with my American MasterCard at least once, no?
I believe it depends on the bank or institution that issued the card in question but don't take my word for it as I am no expert in these matters :)

thejason: Glad to have options. but hey, GOG , u forget China, dont u? all the options are not easy ways to buy a game on GOG for Chinese.
So, what are the options that work for folks from China? Also, how is the PC gaming scene in general in China? I always wondered about that :)
