Wipeout XL (1996)

by Psygnosis
Genres:Racing
Themes:Action, Science fiction
Game modes:Single player
Story:WipEout XL is set in the year 2097, around four decades after its predecessor. Instead of the F3600 anti-gravity racing competition, the game features an even faster and more dangerous tournament: the F5000 AG league. The gameplay system is similar to that of the previous game: players race against each other or computer in high-speed futuristic environments, liberally picking up weapons scattered around the stages and using them against the opponents to finish the race in the highest position.Show more

This was one of my most played Playstation games. I sunk so many hours into this fully entranced by every aspect from the high speed racing, to the visuals, to the soundtrack. This is easily one of the best PSX games.

I had the PC version. The music, the atmosphere and the feeling of beating a track were exhilarating, there are very few similar games currently available on PC, and the studio that originally made it is defunct, so the chances of more of the same are not good. It's also extremely difficult to get the original running on anything beyond Windows XP.
One of the very best racing games tied in with such a cool vision of the future, and the soundtrack that took us there. Every brand felt like it's own, every track a memory. I'll never forget how much this game opened doors for me with my own tastes.

Black Rock Shooter: The Game
Black Rock Shooter: The GameBlack Rock Shooter: The Game is an action role-playing game and based on the Black Rock Shooter franchise created by Huke. The players take on the role of the eponymous Black Rock Shooter. The game is divided into several missions in which the player must clear objectives to progress. On the main overworld, BRS can explore the available areas and look for certain items. Battles begin when the player comes into contact with an enemy on the overworld. During a battle, BRS can aim and shoot with her rock cannon at enemies, block against attacks, and sidestep to avoid them completely. If the player fires the rock cannon or uses the sidestep too much in a short time, the system will overheat, leaving the player vulnerable to attack until it cools down. Throughout the game, players can earn abilities that can be equipped to BRS and used in battle, each with their own cooldown periods. These include offensive attacks such as a powerful blast, a sniper rifle, or support abilities that can increase BRS' stats such as her attack or defense. Certain sections will also see BRS ride a motorcycle, in which she can attack enemies on either side of her or use weapons to fire in front of enemies.

Midtown Madness 3
Midtown Madness 3Midtown Madness 3 is an open world racing/arcade sequel, part of the Midtown Madness series. For the first time in the series, the game was released only on the Xbox, with a Windows version rumoured for later release, but ultimately scrapped.[citation needed] The game was developed by DICE (of Battlefield 1942 fame) and published by Microsoft Game Studios. This marked a change from the developer of the first two games, Angel Studios (now Rockstar San Diego). Coincidentally, Midtown Madness 3 was released in 2003 against Midnight Club II, created by the developer of the first two games, Rockstar San Diego. The Xbox-only release and change of developer heralded a significant graphical improvement to maintain the console's graphical standards.
