I'd played the SNES original so many times I wrote a guide for it almost from memory; I had an unbeatable dream team that combined the best of everyone's abilities across every character and class. This game completely threw that on its head with a new skill system that really made me want to experiment with its classes all over again. In fact, everything about this game is redesigned from the ground up, and it's everything I wanted a Secret of Mana remake to be since before the Secret of Mana remake was even announced, and wound up being nothing like this. I was apprehensive at first, because Squenix usually eats it when it comes to action-based combat, but this feels really good. The visuals are absolutely gorgeous, too, and filled with details that the art team didn't really need to include, but it's obvious that they cared SO MUCH about this game and its world; it's rare to see this much love poured into a modern game with a budget this big. Even the usually-slapped-together postgame dungeon was pretty interesting, and added in some brand new classes to play around with... and break the game with! It was like discovering a beloved classic for the first time all over again.
