I need to play it again on a modern system!
With the recent addition of the 25th Anniversary and Judgement Rites, I've been hoping for the release of their spritual successor, The Next Generation's A Final Unity. As a die hard TNG fan I loved playing this as a kid and would buy it again in a heartbeat. You can assemble your own away team and if I remember correctly, there are multiple ways to succeed or fail at missions. Everything about this game's presentation is on point and you could tell that the developers had a deep appreciation for the Star Trek franchise.
While I like to believe I’d still be a gamer and a Trekkie today thanks to the breadth of great experiences offered by both interests, there’s no denying the countless hours I poured into this game in my most formative years. This is more than just the greatest Star Trek game—which it is—it is a rare and fantastic entry in the history of the golden age of television and a trail blazer in game storytelling. It’s also better than all the next gen films.
A Final Unity is a mini season of Next Gen with a handful of stand alone episodes that continue to grow to a season long arc. This was unique at the time, especially since the TV show it adapted didn’t even do it! This is a narrative adventure with full and fantastic voice acting that gives extreme freedom to the player to live in this world. You assemble the away team and choose how to solve each problem with tact, science, and diplomacy. It is a rare game that encourages lateral thinking and collaborating between playable characters to determine the best solution.
It’s also a very strong roleplaying game with unnecessarily deep lore building to the federation and the Enterprise. The ship’s computer has encyclopedic amounts of information to dig through with no impact on the game, creating the illusion of infinite information out there. The map of the quadrant has a vast array of star systems the player never visits, but are theoretically out there to explore after a month at warp speed.
My only complaint about this adventure is the combat difficulty in space, especially on modern machines that seem to run the encounters too fast. Roddenberry would be happy to know that, unlike every other trek game, combat is almost always completely avoidable. You can also delegate all tactical decisions to Worf, the tactical officer, in one of many examples of the game encouraging roleplaying as a leader.
I really hope this game can be preserved for future generations. I suddenly have the urge to check my orders from Starfleet.
When I first got my own PC I got a games bundle with it and this game was part of it. I was already a Trekkie and it appealed to me straight away but it was so much fun (and difficult as a kid!) to play. Plus who could resist electrocuting the Ensign by getting them to stick the paperclip in something!
When you ask what are the best Star Trek games of all time. There's a Trifecta that stands at the top. There's Bridge Commander, Elite Force and A Final Unity. GOG already has two of these and it's just missing one to complete the set. There's others I'd love to see preserved as well. Like DS9 the Fallen or TNG Generations. But those three deserve to be at the front of the line.
As a big Star Trek fan I've always wanted to play this game, but unfortunately never had the chance to, as at that time my PC didn't have such a fancy thing as a CD-ROM-player.
The best TNG game ever done. Real shame they didn’t make sequels. Space combat, ground exploration, and interesting mysteries to solve, it’s a great game I’d love to pick up and play again.
This was the first Star Trek game I ever played. I mostly remember being able to do limited space combat, actually controlling the Enterprise D and firing photon torpedoes. That alone was so much fun. I don't think I ever finished it, so if it came to GOG that would be a great opportunity.
This, after Star Trek Judgement Rites and the 25th Anniversary, was the best adventure game ever set in the TNG universe. Sadly, most have never gotten an opportunity to play this great game, but they should. Captain Picard says: Make it so GOG!

Xenosaga Episode I: Der Wille zur MachtXenosaga: Episode I - Der Wille zur Macht, the first chapter of a trilogy, is a Japanese-style sci-fi role-playing game, sharing many common themes and gameplay elements with Xenogears.
The battle system is not unlike the one used in Xenogears (combo attacks, AP and EP gauges, etc.), but random encounters are eliminated. Instead, the enemies are now visible and battles can be avoided. During combat the few upcoming ally and enemy turns are shown onscreen, allowing the player to make strategic decisions based on who will act next. A rolling slot moves with each turn as well, conferring a bonus such as added damage or bonus XP for any action on that turn. If the enemy would be in position to take an advantage then the player can expend a character's "boost" gauge to cut in and act next, although enemies can boost as well, and enemy boosts always over-ride player boosts.
Each character has a unique tree of Ether spells they can learn by spending Ether points earned in battle, with lower spells requiring spells above them to be purchased first. After a spell is purchased, so long is it does not require a unique talent of that character, the spell can also be purchased and learned by any other character that can afford double its normal cost. The Anti-Gnosis Weapon Systems can be equipped with different weapons and accessories and can be used in combat provided that a character has enough AP on that turn to board their AGWS.Trending Fantasy Science fiction
