Story:Nitemare 3D (N3D) is a first-person shooter PC game with a horror theme, released by Gray Design Associates in 1994 for MS-DOS and Windows 3.1x platforms. It consisted of three episodes with ten levels in each episode, with the first episode being was released as shareware. The full release came on two 3½" floppy disks and was accompanied by a guide to the game's thirty levels. The graphics were similar to those used in Wolfenstein 3D or Ken's Labyrinth, with perpendicular walls and no textures on the floors or ceilings. The music in Nitemare 3D was composed by David B. Schultz (also composed for Quiver). Nitemare 3D follows the story of Hugo, from the Hugo trilogy, a series of graphic adventure PC games consisting of Hugo's House of Horrors, Hugo II, Whodunit?, and Hugo III, Jungle of Doom!. Penelope, Hugo's girlfriend, has been kidnapped by the evil Dr. Hamerstein for use in heinous experiments. Hugo must battle through Hamerstein's bizarre mansion, underground caverns complete with prisons and laboratories, and finally through a twisted alternate dimension of demons and aliens in an attempt to save her.Show more

I had this on a very old computer my family had growing up (RIP) but this was one of the games that was already installed on it. I have such fond memories playing it and I had no idea that it was a DOOM/Wolfenstein 3D clone until years later (funny enough I also didn't know about those games until years later either)

I grew up playing David Gray's Hugo series on those shareware compilation CDs. I remember getting to choose a free Shareware floppy with the purchase of my first 1GB hard drive at my local computer shop and I chose Nitemare 3D because I recognized Hugo and I really enjoyed Wolfenstein 3D. It's a perfect blend of Action & Adventure and one of the few examples of a family friendly FPS.
Growing up, my grandmother had a desktop computer that she would use to play games like Bejeweled, Zuma and Diner Dash. Finding ourselves unentertained by those options, my two older brothers and I discovered something we did not expect to find on Grandma's PC, Nitemare 3D. At the age of six, the game scared me. But since playing games like DOOM and Wolfenstein as a teenager, I'd like to return to the mansion that horrified my young mind.
I was quite young when my brothers and I happened upon this game. I didn't know what Doom or Wolfentstein was. Later, I though Wolfentstein copied Nitemare. A rip off of the cult classic Nitemare 3D. Of course, I was wrong, but this was probably the first game that freaked me out... and I couldn't stop playing it.
You can only get this game on the creator website. I think this is reason enough to put this gem elsewhere. Plus it’s part of the Hugo series, and the first 3 games are already on GOG.
Those games also need your vote!

Nuclear Strike
Nuclear StrikeNuclear Strike is a shooter video game developed and published by Electronic Arts for the PlayStation in 1997. The game is the sequel to Soviet Strike and the fifth instalment in the Strike series, which began with Desert Strike on the Sega Genesis. The Soviet Strike development team also created Nuclear Strike. EA released a PC port the same year; THQ developed and in 1999 published a Nintendo 64 version called Nuclear Strike 64. Nuclear Strike is a helicopter-based game, with strategy elements added to the action gameplay. The plot concerns an elite special force - the player's allies - pursuing a nuclear-armed rogue spy through a fictionalised Asian setting. It retained the earlier game's engine but added several modifications to improve graphical performance and make the game more accessible. The game features 15 playable vehicles, a large increase from previous games. In addition to the main fictionalised Apache, there are secondary helicopters, jets, armour and a hovercraft. The player also commands ground troops in occasional real-time strategy sections. The game received positive, negative and mixed reviews. Critics noted a weak storyline, though GameSpot dismissed this is as unimportant in an action game. GameSpot called the graphics - which made use of specialised hardware such as 3Dfx Voodoo video cards and the N64 Expansion Pak - "about as good as it gets", while Allgame said they are "decent" and Daily Radar called them "horrible". Critics praised the full motion video as well as the music and sound effects. Reviewers enjoyed the straightforward gameplay but several complained of a close similarity to its predecessor Soviet Strike and questioned the game's value as a result.

Freelancer
FreelancerEight hundred years prior to the start of our story, bitter conflict divided all of mankind. A handful of colonists struck out on their own to begin anew - far away from the Earth and its turmoil. Several ships were launched with enough equipment and supplies to give the hundreds onboard a fighting chance - but since the area around far-off Sirius had never been surveyed, no one really knew what to expect. What they found was a new frontier of free-flowing natural resources, unexplored territories, great wonders and lurking dangers. Each ship, representing the clusters of people and their earthly place of origin, settled into different parts of the galaxy pre-selected by their ship-board computer to give them the best chance of survival. Life was hard in the beginning, but over the 800 years the different colonies prospered and expanded their territories, claiming more and more systems for their own. Survival and propagation eventually led to growth and profit as each of the colonies developed specialties and fostered commerce. As the colonies grew and time passed their connections with their roots on Earth dwindled and they lost their memories of the conflicts of the past. Soon their attention was dominated by new, more immediate conflicts. Feelings of lost ancestral connection spurred anachronism in the look of the great cities, and created a somewhat distorted image of each colony's cultural heritage. In the ever-expanding outer edge of the territories, frontier lawlessness prevailed. The Houses: Each shipboard colony that left Earth carried some memory of its origins in its name. The Liberty carried Americans, The Bretonia flew from The United Kingdom and surrounding territory, The Kusari from Asia, and the Rheinland launched with Germanic cargo. As each ship settled and colonies began to expand, they knew little about each other and their advancing development. Finally, little by little, the individual colonies found each other and began to set up trade routes to link their systems for commerce and solidarity. Today, with each colony firmly rooted in its respective corner of the galaxy, the colonies rely heavily on each other for trade and industry but also compete for resources and new territories in the Border Worlds. The colonies mandate member governments in "The New Alliance" within the Sirius sector. To control conflicts, each colony has forged alliances and treaties with others as they have grown. Competition remains fierce, however. Struggles rage for supremacy in business, commerce, resources, power and control. There can be tenuous peace between colonies' political agendas, but the grabs for holdings constantly unsettle the volatile frontier.

Metroid
MetroidMetroid was first released for the Famicom Disk System, exclusively in Japan. Due to the enhanced hardware support, it features a save system, has less slowdown and better quality music. However, when comparing with its International version, it doesn't have the second quest after beating the game, the players can't use Justin Bailey Samus (Zero Suit) and it is much lenient on difficulty and endgame requirements.
