Mirror's Edge Catalyst (2016)

by EA Digital Illusions CE, Electronic Arts
Genres:Adventure, Platform
Themes:Open world, Action, Thriller
Game modes:Single player, Multiplayer
Story:Mirror's Edge Catalyst is an action-adventure game and the prequel to Mirror's Edge. The story in the game explores the past of the protagonist Faith. Like in the previous game, the main gameplay in Mirror's Edge Catalyst involves traversing the city using parkour to reach certain objectives. Unlike the linear levels in Mirror's Edge, Mirror's Edge Catalyst features an open-world free-roaming environment. Combat has been overhauled and emphasized compared to the first game and Catalyst no longer allows the player to use weapons, instead focusing on melee attacks.Show more

Sublime parkour, enjoyable kungfu, stunning visuals, dreamy OST, and a much-needed iteration on the franchise lore than gives us everything that made Faith iconic, without the trope-heavy misteps from the first game. Would love to see this added for posterity's sake. A game that everyone should experience at one point or another.
I've played this game since 2018, and I love simply being immersed in this world. I miss the online interactions, but the game still holds up without them. I wish EA didn't throw their games away like this. Glad to see the movement to preserve it!
One of the best looking games in history, not only visually, but in how it feels to play, the movement, the sound, the music, the architecture. It's not a perfect game, but when it works it's an experience with no close competitors.

To this day this game is the only one I still return to, to enjoy its unmatched clean urban style and beauty, nostalgic music and to run around it's one of a kind urban environments for fun, even after completing it 100%! It has a huge replayability value as well! It's been almost 10 years since it came out and it's certainly timeless and enchanting in its own way! Even after having its online servers shut down, not allowing players anymore to create fun custom parkour runs around the city and compete with each other, it's designed in such a way that moving through it freely is extremely easy and pleasurable without these extra features, that no doubt if ever make a return will be a blast! One of the few games that bring such a specific nostalgia these days and one a must for everybody to experience.

Mirror's Edge was an instant classic and I've been pleased to buy it on GOG. The sequel was disappointing in that it rebooted the franchise, but it did also add an open world with challenges which made for a great world to explore and navigate.

ME:C is in my heart forever. This game has gorgeous visual style, perfect sound design and flow of the movement mechanics. We need it's online back! It's so fun and competitve!
Mirror’s Edge has always held a special place in my heart. From the moment I first played the original, I was captivated by its breathtaking parkour system, exhilarating challenges, and stunning atmosphere. It wasn’t just a game—it was an experience, a beautifully crafted world that invited us to run, leap, and explore like never before. The sequel, while not quite reaching the heights of its predecessor, still carries that same spirit. It’s a visually spectacular game, built with undeniable passion by its developers. And yet, despite all its brilliance, it remains out of reach for many players. Because of EA’s decisions, achievements are half-broken, and for some who legally purchased the game, it’s impossible to play at all due to server shutdowns (without workarounds). A game this stunning should not be left to fade into obscurity. That’s why I sincerely hope it gets released on GOG. By doing so, this masterpiece could be preserved, made truly accessible once more, and freed from unnecessary restrictions. Mirror’s Edge Catalyst deserves to be played, to be experienced, and to inspire a new generation of players—just as the original once did. Let’s not let such a beautiful game be forgotten.

ME:C is one of my unforgettable favorites. In a slightly futuristic society organized by castes, ever giving up more and more of its privacy and freedom of thought to the benefit of companies (rings any bells?), a country ends under the iron rule of an oligarchy born of the families to which said companies belong to. Freedom may be listed in the dictionary, but who holds the rights over that dictionary and the content of its definitions? With such a setting, ME:C delivers a surprisingly beautiful, varied urban world in which you get to enjoy a game of parkour. Now the comparison is unavoidable with the original Mirror's Edge; while its predecessor felt closer to a parkour simulation, ME:Catalyst introduces a variety of surreal gadgets that help you navigate around the maze of the city of Glass, which you play in. And yet, despite its predecessor being "truer" to parkour, I've enjoyed ME:C more; the city feels more lively and works like an open world (though limited to roofs and buildings' insides), areas of the city have a stronger identity to make them distinct from others, and the lore entries give you quite some insight to the life of Employs - yes, citizens hold a different name in their dictionary. More than that, what I've enjoyed the most is how the game puts emphasis on being a Runner. Unlike its predecessor, you won't be using weapons to shoot people anymore, you're not trying to eliminate anyone on purpose to make it easier (except the occasional use of your environment, throwing an opponent off a building). Violence is put aside. Yes, you may kick, punch or throw opponents; at most you may want to knock them out, but that's all. Your main intent is to run, to be fast and to get faster; the main storyline forces some fights, but outside it - RUN. It's a genre that feels, to me, sorely missing on the market. The immersion is great, the sensation of vertigo sometimes real; it'd be an immediate purchase for my game library if it could be on GOG!

It's my favorite game, it's my religion, a game without ray tracing but with such beautiful light and shadow. It is unparalleled and it has been engraved in my life.

It's a phenomenal parkour game with good ambience and great music… (I want the OST on a CD, it's really good) Even the story line was written quite well. It was a joy to experience this game when it was still fully operational. It's just a great game that I'd wish would never be forgotten.

The Wizard's Castle
The Wizard's CastleThe Wizard's Castle is a text-based role-playing game. The player creates a character, choosing between the races of elf, human, dwarf, and hobbit, distinguished by their personal statistics (strength, intelligence, and dexterity). The player can also choose the initial weapons, armor, and items to take on the quest. When all is ready, the hero ventures into the dungeon. Gameplay is in some ways similar to a text adventure, with text descriptions replacing graphics. Simple commands are used to move from room to room, consult a map, or look around. However, many times the player only needs to choose from a several options for the current situation, such as during battles. There are vendors the protagonist can trade with, mystical pools which can give or take away power, warps to far parts of the castle, numerous monsters to fight and assorted treasures to find.
