Machines was one of my first RTS game. The game is really complete. Search for ressources, mining, research for differents units. And i was able to control a single unit in FPS mode, that was incredible at this time.

This game was my childhood, I spent countless hours in Skirmish mode just racing the CPU into making as many end game Gorilla units as possible and then controlling one in first person just as we're wiping out their base so I could have the final satisfying earthquake like hit and win the match. One of the first important steps into 3D for the RTS genre and so much fun!
I remember when i played this game at a internet cafe/game center, i remember it having these wierd little 4 legged machines where i just went into skirmish matches and tried controlling them in First person which was incredibly novel at the time and one of the early games to attempt such a thing. Was so happy when i heard Nightdive released the source code for the game, just such a shame the campaign isnt particularly noteworthy given the unit designs and everything

This is the first strategy game I ever played that allowed you to take first-person control of individual units. It added a level of excitement to the game that I have never felt since.

One of my first RTS which allowed FPS mode. From Eradicators causing mayhem to Gorillas smashing through everything. It was so much fun It does have a very difficult campaign.
I love the design of this cute death machines. I also brought it as the EURO was introduced. I was so confused, because of the price tag it did not show the currency and had to pay more.

one of the earliest 3d RTS FPS Hybrids I've played as a child. The designs and atmophere alone captivated me and would love to see this come back to be able to experience the true machine warfare
As a kid I lent this game from our local library. When I heard they would stop lending out games I nearly begged them to sell it too me. They weren't allowed to and the game ended up in the trash somewhere. By that time Machines had already faded into obscurity and I have tried to get my hands on it ever since.
Those games also need your vote!

Football ManagerThe first football management simulator, many of the hallmarks of the incredibly complex games which exist in this genre today are found in embryonic form here. Hanse
HanseHanse is a managerial strategy game set in the 14th century. The player takes the role of an ambitious citizen who wants to become the mayor of Lübeck. To reach this goal he has to get rich by trading with other cities of the Hanseatic League. The basic gameplay principle is simple: shipping salt and exchanging it for other goods which then can be sold in Lübeck for a good price. This means the current salt price is the most important part when planning shipments (besides the weather). Of course the player also has to purchase and maintain other things, e.g. a trading station, ships and cannons. Alternatively the player can also participate in smuggling.

Dune II - The Battle for ArrakisDune II - The Battle for Arrakis
Dune II - The Battle for ArrakisDune II is often considered the first mainstream modern real-time strategy game and established many conventions of the genre. Even though set in Frank Herbert's famous Dune universe, the game is only loosely connected to the plot of any of the books or the films based from them. Controlling either of the three Houses, the player must fight a number of battles against the other Houses. In the early levels, the goal is simply to earn a certain number of credits, while in the later missions, all enemies must be destroyed. The single resource in the game is the Spice, which must be collected by harvesters. The spice is converted to credits in a refinery, which are then spent to construct additional buildings and units. There are two terrain types: buildings can only be constructed on stone, while the Spice is only found on sand. However, units moving on sand attract the large sandworms of Dune, who are virtually indestructible and can swallow even large units whole. As levels progress, new and more advanced buildings and units are made available, including structures like a radar station, a repair facility or defense turrets and, for units, various ground troops, light vehicles and tanks. Each House can construct one unique special unit, and, after building a palace improvement, can unleash a unique palace effect.

Sid Meier's Railroad Tycoon Deluxe
Sid Meier's Railroad Tycoon DeluxeRailroad Tycoon is a game about the fascinating world of railroads: steel tracks stretching to the horizon, promising adventure and romance; steam, diesel, and electric locomotives, some of the largest machines man has ever built; nations transformed by the speed and strength that locomotives could achieve, eclipsing the puny power of man himself and the animals he could domesticate; the sounds of steam whistles, diesel horns, and clanging bells; a world of risk - natural disasters, poor economic times, and rival railroads; and a world of opportunity - money, prestige, and fame. Railroad Tycoon is maybe the most famous Tycoon game. Your goal is to build a railroad empire. You have to build your railroad, improve stations, manage your bank accounts and investments. You have to get the others from business or buy their miserable companies as cheap as possible. Show them who is the real and only one Railroad Tycoon.
