Story:Klonoa: Door to Phantomile is a side-scrolling platform game viewed from a "2.5D" perspective. The player moves the protagonist, Klonoa, along a path in a two-dimensional fashion, but the game is rendered in three dimensions. This allows the path followed to curve and for the player to interact with objects outside of the path.Show more

While Phantasy Reverie remake does a good job of repurposing Klonoa Wii into something more akin to the PS1 original, it has still lost some of its magic (in my opinion). The remake is a great 2.5D platformer. But the original version is truly special. Namco showcase their mastery in FMV cutscenes that still look good today and show the world of Phantomile off in ways that just aren't the same in other versions. Sprites, while dated on modern screens, still convey emotion. The gameplay feels tighter. The menus and credits are all on-theme with the game. Music, as always with Namco, is amazing. It's a whole experience and it deserves to be easily accessible in its original form.

Klonoa is one of the most unique jump'n runs I have ever played. The very special art style and the absolutely fantastic soundtrack create an atmosphere that covers the whole spectrum from joy to melancholy in an unprecedented way. The different levels and landscapes are pretty and the mixture of 2D and 3D gameplay is a lot of fun. Especially the ability to throw enemies into any three-dimensional direction extends the player's attention beyond reachable platforms, always trying to spot hidden items or switches that can be activated by throwing opponents at them. Compelling and creative boss fights are just the cherry on top of this underrated PlayStation masterpiece, which has to be preserved for future generations.

This game was a unique and moving platformer. A lot of heartwarming and thought-provoking moments throughout the adventure. Its a playthrough I have not forgotten, even 10-15 years later. It deserves the chance to be preserved and remembered in its original format. The FMV work is something that the Wii version and the remake has struggled to replicate. I hope this game does have a chance to continue and stick around.
While Phantasy Reverie Series is an option to play Door to Phantomile, it loses some of the magic the original PS1 version has. The FMVs feel surreal and dreamlike, something the in-engine cutscenes in Wiimake and Phantasy Reverie Series fail to replicate, especially the final cutscene which hits much harder in the PS1 version. The PS1 version still feels tight and refined to play, and deserves to be preserved.
My mother never bought me video games. Ever. Said it would make me lazy and affect my health. She was right. One time she broke her cardinal rule; at a KB toys in our local mall, Klonoa was sitting there in the clearance bin. For $20. Have had my PS1 copy ever since. At a time when I wanted Duke Nukem and Resident Evil, my mother gave me the gift of Klonoa at the age of 7. From time to time I remind her of this story and she just scoffs. I thank her anyway.
This is one of my Favorite games of all time, such an underrated gem. I Love the Remaster they did of the game in 2022 alongside it's sequel, but the PSX original deserves to be preserved too, it's aesthetic is sublime, and to me, the pre-rendered graphics of the characters are really charming. Also, the Story is great, it will make you cry at the end, i'm not joking.

Curse of Babylon
Curse of BabylonThe country of Babylon was once a thriving community, enjoying peace and prosperity. However, all that changed when monsters invaded the land. Eventually, the entire population was wiped out and Babylon became an enclosed area no one dared to enter. Only one brave adventurer traveled to Babylon in an attempt to destroy the evil that dominated it. Babylon is a side-view action game with light platforming and role-playing elements. The game takes place across interconnected screens, often arranged in maze-like patterns, with vertical shafts that required climbing, dropping down, or jumping over chasms. The jump key is also used for attacking, which requires gaining momentum and repeatedly "bumping" into the enemy. There are no experience points or any type of currency, but defeating enemies may yield healing potions or better weapons and armor. These items can also be found in the numerous treasure rooms found in the game. The player is given considerable freedom as to which area to explore first, but many areas are initially blocked, requiring the player to procure a key or return with better equipment in order to defeat a stronger enemy guarding the location.
