Gauntlet Dark Legacy

Gauntlet Dark Legacy (2000)

by Midway Games West, Midway Games
Genres:Hack and slash/Beat 'em up
Themes:Action, Fantasy
Game modes:Single player, Co-operative, Split screen
Story:Gauntlet Dark Legacy is the follow-up to Gauntlet Legends and another installment in the long-running Gauntlet series of hack-and-slash action games. As with all the Gauntlet games, you play a medieval fantasy character who, along with allies if you have them, fights his or her way through hordes of evil creatures on the never ending quest for more gold and perhaps even an eventual goal. This version contains the characters and levels from Gauntlet Legends, plus the new characters and levels from the Dark Legacy arcade game, with a few extra levels thrown in. There are eight characters to initially choose from: the mighty Warrior, the deadly Valkyrie, the quick-footed Archer, the powerful Wizard, the spellcasting Sorceress, the stalwart Knight, the valiant Dwarf, and the chaotic Jester. Although there are similarities between characters from the two games, each character looks and plays differently. In addition, there are eight alternative-modes for these characters to unlock, plus dozens of secret characters to obtain. With a multi-tap, up to four players can play, with rules governing how much they can hurt each other. Unlike the original Gauntlets, the levels you'll face take place in various terrain from forests to mountains to volcanic plains. Many of the monsters are familiar to old fans of the series, but there are some new blood among the ranks of evil, including some rather large foes.Show more

This was my childhood game growing up, and it is an absolute masterpiece in my personal opinion, the effort and sheer passion this game exudes should be obvious to any player, from the music, the different coloration of characters and clothing they wear to suit your preferences, to the fast paced arcadey combat that the game preserves from all the previous entries in the series, to the exceptionally composed music, this game has it all, a hearty recommend for ANY player of RPGs and dungeon crawlers.

Having played the original in the 80's, one day in the late 90's I walked into an arcade with some friends, was stunned by the 3D graphics and we were instantly hooked. I loved Gauntlet Legends as well, would be great if we could see both on GoG.

My brother and I played this game for years on the PS2 with the multitap and some of my friends. I would love to see this game return so I can play it again. Had so much fun trying to figure out how to get all the many unlockable characters this game had that you had to do very specific things to unlock.
I played this game religiously as a kid. I would always play with my brother and sister, and whichever cousin would visit. My favorite character is the knight/unicorn, and I would always try to max him out. I can safely say that this is the best Gauntlet game ever, no other entry could compare, not even its predecessors.
I love the "flavor" of this game. The music style is so good. I like how the characters' different color swaps are not only color swaps but also have different cultural garb. How all the characters have different cool ultimate moves. The snappy combat and the way you can just wade through the enemies by pushing forward. This game should be on GOG because it really needs a PC port. There has never been a pc version of this game. (Except for emulation, of course.) Hopefully a pc version that fixes the bug where your character's stats get reset when you start a new character.

To this day, this is one of the best co-op games of all time. The save system and progression system was as impressive and unique for the console as the original arcade cabinet's save system was when it was first released. Growing up we shared between 8 different players as we progressed through the game, running it almost like a tabletop campaign. This is one of those games where you could play it forever, where every corner of every map is jam-packed with content, where the gameplay was accessible to anyone while also being challenging. Every single detail of this game was passionately constructed, from music, to the color swaps, to the art direction and sound design. This game came with more content than any other console game I can remember at the time, and bringing this game to GOG would be preserving part of the pantheon of great co-op games which never made it to PC.

This was the game that really brought the family together. My dad, older sister, younger brother and I would get together, sometimes even going with those crazy cheat code names for stuff like wacky hidden skins or permanent Pojo. I'm the only one that kept gaming all these years later, and while there's some games that scratch a similar itch to this, nothing's quite like Dark Legacy. It's really one of a kind, and I'd love for more folks to experience it!

A favorite in the no-longer-existing arcade at my local movie theater and a go-to on the gamecube. I played this with my uncle, cousins as well as numerous friends all gathered around the tv. With a huge amount of characters, many secret unlockable ones, as well as several huge realms with various themes. Dark Legacy is, to me, a classic from Midway.
loved this game as a kid i forgot all about it as i grew up only being able to remember small parts in my head i then spend over a year watching vids on YouTube showing the covers of all the games on old systems i then spoke to my cousin who remembered the name i know own it for my GameCube and Xbox and hoping Gog brings to pc .
My favorite game to play with my little sister growing up. Great memories, loved playing this version as well as the arcade releases. This game seriously deserves a re-release with online Co-Op

The Simpsons Arcade
The Simpsons ArcadeAlthough the game is called The Simpsons Arcade, this game is not a port of the well-known coin-op game of the same name. Instead, it is an homage to it, retaining the same beat-em-up gameplay, but featuring new characters from later seasons of The Simpsons, such as Chief Wiggum, Bumblebee Man and Mayor Quimby. Players attack enemies with punches and kicks, and can find power-ups in the form of other Simpsons family members, who appear on-screen briefly to give assistance in beating up foes.
