Final Fantasy VIII

Final Fantasy VIII (1999)

by Square Product Development Division 1, Square, Square Electronic Arts, Square Enix
Genres:Role-playing (RPG), Adventure
Themes:Open world, Fantasy, Science fiction
Game modes:Single player
Story:Final Fantasy VIII is the eighth main installment in the Final Fantasy series. The gameplay makes a departure from many series standards. While it still uses the Active Time Battle system, it deviates from the series' traditional means of boosting a character's power via leveling, although levels are not completely abandoned as they were in Final Fantasy II. In addition, it does not have a Magic Point-based system for spell-casting. Instead, magic is collected, drawn, and created from items, and is used to power up the characters via the junction system.Show more

There are few games I want to come to GOG more than this. One of the most important games ever made to me. I grew up playing my brother's PS1 version. I had no idea how to navigate the complex mechanics or play well, but I was absolutely enraptured by the setting, characters, and the plot. If I could only choose 1 game to come to GOG it would absolutely be this. Thanks to everyone who voted/votes and I hope to one day see this on GOG.

This was my first Final Fantasy game, and I was blown away by the cutscenes, which still look great. While the game is usually overshadowed by its great predecessor, it is still an amazing game and tried some interesting game mechanics with its junction system.
The Final Fantasy VII, VIII, IX and X/X2 versions on Steam are completely broken and dysfunctional on a fundamental technical level and you need to install a fan made mod just to have Japanese voices with English subtitles for FF X/X2. Square Enix handled their Final Fantasy VII, VIII, IX and X/X2 ports so poorly and then they wondered why they didn't sell. And now they have released this three fold abomination that is the VII remake. It's like Square Enix is spitting us PC gamers in the face. Please release these games in a proper state on PC in their original states and with proper voice/subtitle choices. All these games need is the ability to run at high resolution and a bare minumum of 60FPS. No remakes. No UI changes. And certainly no story or gameplay changes.
One of my first game ever. I remember playing this with my dad back in the days; I wasn't still sure how to read at the time so, my dad, would read the dialogs out loud thus we could went thorugh the story togheter (even though we didn't have a guide and get conostatly stuck in the middle of disc 3). The current situation of the various games version is a little sad (midi audio format in the original steam release and the new character's look for the remastered), I really wish for a much closer 1:1 version. If there is a place for this request is here, I really love the scope and the goal of this project. Kudos!

Gunblades became a thing for awhile from this game, permeating other Squaresoft games at the time like Parasite Eve II and The Bouncer. Probably the most romance-centric of all the Final Fantasy games and also featured a surprise English ballad from Faye Wong, a singer based in Hong Kong who usually sings in Mandarin.
If gog does this (and they should), offer the classic original version and the remake, but give people the option to choose. Don't go the D&D game "enhanced" route and force people to pay more for options they don't want.

I remember putting an all-nighter with this one, during holidays, travelling in an overnight train to Bangkok xD. Played it on PSP back then and literally couldn't stop, mainly because of the story!

such a great game, incredible graphics and animations, the story is a bit convoluted but still good, and the music, man, such great music. i just hope that if it truly makes it to GOG it will be the uncensored version, and not the same as the one on Steam.

The combat, exploration, music, and innovation in this game was really something special. Squall is still a mega edgelord in my book, but I appreciate that he doesn't stay in the angst phase forever. I also love that this game introduced a lot of Western players to the magic of Faye Wong, and I'm forever grateful to Square Enix for that.

Crackdown
CrackdownCrackdown is an open world, third-person shooter video game for the Xbox 360. Set in the fictional Pacific City, the player controls a biologically enhanced Agent, tasked with defeating three crime lords and their organized crime syndicates. The Agent's abilities improve by defeating both crime lords and their supporters, as well as by completing optional activities, such as street races and scavenger hunts. The gameplay is nonlinear: instead of following a rigid mission sequence, players are free to select the approach to completing their missions and activities. The game features a two-player cooperative play mode via Xbox Live. Crackdown, initially planned for release on the original Xbox console, was envisioned as a vast world in which players could experiment and explore freely. Microsoft Game Studios bundled specifically marked copies of Crackdown with an access code to the multiplayer test version of the much-anticipated Halo 3 Beta. The game sold 1.5 million copies in its first six months of release because everybody wanted to play Halo 3. It received positive reviews and has garnered several awards for its innovative gameplay. Crackdown was a free download (for Xbox Live Gold members only) from August 1st, 2013 to August 16th, 2013 as part of the Xbox 360 "Games With Gold" (Xbox Live) program.

Ehrgeiz
EhrgeizEhrgeiz is a 3D fighting game that features some characters from Final Fantasy VII. Cloud Strife and Tifa Lockhart are playable in the arcade and the PlayStation versions, and Sephiroth, Yuffie Kisaragi, Vincent Valentine and Zack Fair were added to the PlayStation version's roster. Ehrgeiz differs from most 3D fighting games by drawing heavily from the concepts of wrestling games and Dream Factory's own Tobal series, which allow for full 360-degree movement and do not require fighters to be facing each other at all times.
