Eternal Sonata (2007)

by tri-Crescendo, Bandai Namco Entertainment
Genres:Role-playing (RPG)
Themes:Open world
Game modes:Single player, Co-operative, Split screen
Story:Eternal Sonata is a role-playing video game developed by tri-Crescendo and published by Namco Bandai Games. The game is centered on the Polish romantic pianist and composer Frédéric Chopin, who died of tuberculosis at the age of 39. The story envisions a fictional world dreamed by Chopin during his last hours that is influenced by Chopin's life and music, and in which he himself is a playable character, among others. The game's battle system centers on musical elements and character-unique special attacks. Light and darkness play a part in the appearance and abilities of enemies on the battlefield, as well as the types of magic that can be cast. The game features a selection of Chopin's compositions played by pianist Stanislav Bunin, though the original compositions were composed and arranged by Motoi Sakuraba. It is notable for its use of classical piano pieces, educational cutscenes featuring real paintings and photographs (in contrast to the cel-shading graphics of the game) and lush landscape design.Show more

This title has a wonderful, tender and at the same time somewhat cruel plot, based on the last moments of the life of Frédéric François Chopin. With a turn-based active battle game system, it plays with light and shadows to enhance or diminish attacks, perform combos between all the members of the group and culminate with a volley of blows. Its graphic section is very colorful and lively with a very successful Anime aesthetic. Its soundtrack is worthy of the author, Chopin, and is re-interpreted by Stanislav Bunin, without forgetting the rest of the themes by Motoi Sakuraba, who leaves us unforgettable songs and makes the soundtrack a monumental delight. It quickly became one of my favourite games, and I still have it in both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions, and have finished it several times from start to finish. A simple story that manages to comfort you, despite the dramatic ending, and with an addictive gameplay system, charismatic characters and a magnificent soundtrack.

Such a unique game that is sadly stuck in a place where it can't be enjoyed by many (on 360 but only playable on 360 and on PS3 but only playable on PS3). A very beautiful, vibrant game with a soundtrack that fits Chopin, the character that the game revolves around. The gameplay mechanics are unique and the story and characters have this comforting, Disney-esque appeal to them. I enjoyed this game enough to speedrun it for several years and enjoy watching my friends play it for the first time. I'd love to see Eternal Sonata reappear on PC and be more available for others to experience!

My friend shipped me a copy over oceans after I found out that my copy was the wrong region (this is one of the few region locked games on the 360). Next time I tried playing something on my 360 it would not read any discs (read: Game was so good it killed my console) . Also this is one of the games that does not work with the Xbox One backwards compatibility, so it's stuck on the 360 and region locked there.
I used to watch my mother play this game and would always just sit there with her just enjoying getting to spend the time with her, Then I started to play it myself and really enjoyed it, but sadly never owned it myself and have had a hard time finding a physical copy of it, since it was only ever released on the ps3 and xbox 360, so I would love to get this game just so that it has a release on the pc and get to play it again and enjoy playing the game that I loved to watch while my mom played.
I love Tri-Ace RPGS, this and the Valkyrie Profiles running on a PC would be amazing, the different strokes Tri-Ace has brought to to japanese style RPG with unconventional game mechanics ar epretty cool, they're more involved than a traditional RPG but not as complex as the oldest CRPGS out there, it'd be very worth it to port their games to PC
This game is deserving of a port at the very least. A JRPG with a beautiful artstyle, fun hybrid turn-based/real-time combat and some of the best music/soundtrack in all of gaming.
A very unique and underrated game with beautiful scenery and OST, nice story, and cool mechanics such as the one that changes the skills and enemies depending if there's a source of light or darkness. The game isn't very polished, but it's one of the games I miss the most from the PS3 (because the PS3 version was improved from the original version of xbox 360) adding more content and some other features. It would be great to see this game on PC and fix some minor bugs (as the slightly displaced heat effect in the volcano).

I played the game a bit some years ago. I didn't play very far into it before moving on to something else, though. I was really enjoying the Gameplay and was really interested in the Story (I still am a lot), so I didn't move on due to not liking the game. I think I just got distracted from it. Anyway, it really aggravates me that I haven't finished this game at least once. It seems like a very interesting game to me. In my opinion, the Visuals and Sounds were fairly well done as well.
Really liked the combat in this game, soothing music and beautiful areas. Have the physical copy and picked up the digital before it was delisted since my 360 Disc drive doesn't read discs anymore. Its a shame its relegated to being stuck on consoles and tbh its the only reason i still have my 360. As everything else i can play on XSX BC or have repurchased on PC.

Ar Tonelico 2: Melody of Metafalica
Ar Tonelico 2: Melody of MetafalicaThe setting for the game is the same as the previous game: the planet of Ar Ciel, albeit centered on a different region this time. The Tower of Ar tonelico from Metafalss is different from the tower in the first game since it doesn't look like a tower initially, but still has some of the same essential facilities (Rinkernator, Plasma Bell (represented as the Lift Generators) and Musical Corridor). The Song Magics are still used like programs, but in this tower there are two Song Magic servers: the Sol Marta server and the Infel Phira Server. The Sol Marta server is located in the upper zone of the tower, acting like a stationary satellite. It is collocated with the S. P. U. and Rinkernator and is the main server for the tower. The Infel Phira server is located in a satellite that orbits the sky around the tower and shares its name with said server. The Sol Marta satellite is a relay station used to increase the range of Song Magic usage of the first tower, so it works with the same kind of hymmnos and executes the EXEC variety of hymns. Plus, it also has the function of receiving energy from the first tower and sending it to the second tower. On the other hand, the Infel Phira server works with another kind of hymmnos called the Pastalia hymmnos, and executes the METHOD variety of hymns.

Times of Lore
Times of LoreTimes of Lore is a pleasant RPG set in the land of Albareth. You play either a Knight, a Barbarian, or a Valkyrie on a quest to search for the magical artifacts that will restore High King Valwyn to power. The game is played in real-time, similar to the Ultima series. The storyline, game play and battle system are simple. The graphics and sound are decent as well. This is a good little game that does not have too many puzzles and is just enjoyable to play with not much thinking.

Fate/Extra
Fate/ExtraFate/Extra is a dungeon crawl style Japanese role-playing game. The game takes place in a parallel universe to the visual novel Fate/stay night. At the start of the game, the player may choose to play as either a male or female character, as well as selecting one of three Servants — Saber, Archer, or Caster, each with different strengths and weaknesses. Players spend one ingame "week" interacting with other characters, viewing scenes that advance the game's story, talking to their Servant in their room, and gathering clues to the identity of the enemy Servant. At the end of each day, they enter the Arena, a dungeon in which they can battle monsters to gain experience points and strengthen their Servant. The game's turn-based battle system is comparable to rock-paper-scissors -- "Attack" overpowers "Break", Break overpowers "Guard", and Guard overpowers Attack. During battle, both the player and the opponent line up six such moves at the beginning of each turn.
