by SouthEnd Interactive
Genres:Sport, Fighting
Themes:Action, Science fiction

Story:Enter a brutal fighting sport where only the fastest and toughest players are victorious. Deathrow combines the fast gameplay of third-person action games, the intensity of fighting games, and the cooperative team play and gritty roughness of rugby. The object of Deathrow is to win matches by any means necessary, either by scoring as many points as possible before time runs out or by severely injuring your opponents and removing them from the field of combat. Engage in fierce hand-to-hand combat against your friends, enemies, or intelligent AI opponents that don't just get mad--they get even.Show more

Like ultimate frisbee with fighting. Knocking out all the players on the other team was a legitimate strategy. One of the buttons on the controller just cursed.
This game was so popular on release it clogged up the xbox forums. Eventually they had to give it its own forum just for talking about Deathrow - a first for an xbox game. Given a monumentally small amount of advertising (a single page picture in one xbox magazine) and a dodgy prison looking front cover for the U.S. edition (instead of the sleek sci fi EU cover) it sold averagely despite its fantastic reviews and dedicated playerbase. Probably the greatest sports game ever - it deserves a full PC update. I can't recommend it enough!!

I played the heck of out the demo disc I had for this. It was incredibly fun! My friend got a copy of it and we played it all day. Would love to play again even if it requires porting.

Savage: The Battle for Newerth
Savage: The Battle for NewerthSavage: The Battle for Newerth was originally released by S2 Games in September 2003 and eventually became freeware 3 years later in September 2006, when the game has been officially abandoned and made open source. The last official patch (2.0e) came out in January 2004. Since then Savage: The Battle for Newerth has been continuously improved by the Savage community: from 2004 to 2005 by the EX2 team, from 2005 to 2007 by the SEP/SFE team and since 2008 by the Savage XR team. Although the game has been criticized for being released in an unpolished state, lacking basic features and any kind of tutorials, Savage: The Battle for Newerth with its innovative RTS/FPS gameplay was far ahead of its time, winning awards such as the Seumas McNally Grand Prize, Technical Excellence and the Audience Award at the Independent Games Festival 2004 or the Editor's Choice Award "8.7 - Great" by IGN.com.
