Civilization II: Multiplayer Gold Edition

Civilization II: Multiplayer Gold Edition (1997)

by MPS Labs, MicroProse Software, Inc.
Genres:Strategy, Turn-based strategy (TBS)
Themes:4X (explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate)
Game modes:Single player, Multiplayer
Story:Civilization II: Multiplayer Gold Edition was bundled both prior expansion packs and added options for networked and hotseat play, and features tweaked AI. All of the music tracks that were in the original release of Civilization II had been removed, however - only some of the "new" ones remained. The tweaked AI is also perpetually unfriendly, rendering most diplomatic functions useless. The Multiplayer Gold Edition was included in the Civilization Chronicles box set released in 2006.Show more

When I was in high school this was on all the computers in the school for some reason. I played a ton instead of doing schoolwork, and eventually bought it for at home myself, playing against my brother often. I’d played the original Civilization once in eighth grade in a mapping elective, but this was really my introduction to the Civilization series.

Civ 2 introduced the option of alternate history models to the game with the add-on Fantastic World. To my knowledge this is unique among the games in the Civilization series. For me there was a great deal of enjoyment in tackling Civ by playing with alternate scenarios that included dinosaurs or starting from an embattled Old Grange. It was great to have multiple evocative game experiences while being confined to a 80286 with a small hard drive that could hold a single game at a time!
I remember playing this game a lot on Playstation 1 and on PC and it was always so fun and interesting. The gameplay was so satisfying for me and there was always so much things to do in this game while building up your civilization. It felt great to explore the map and establish cities that started to grow and became huge in population. The videos for the wonders of the world were amazing. Plus the pack with the scenarios with dinosaurs, sci-fi aliens and spaceships and so on were also great addition. It comes from that time when developers really made great games. This was one of the best turn based strategy games of it's era and I was very surprised to see that it has not yet been added here in GOG. This game deserves to be here with all the other old classics. I am sure that many people would buy and play this game again and again. Me included.

I really love this game and all the extra scenarios included. Please bring this one back as it is so much better than most of the games available today. I would have to play just one more turn and then I realized it was morning.

I got this game for Christmas and played it all night long. My dad came down and saw me playing, I thought I'd be in trouble for playing for so long, but he never said a thing...I guess he was just happy to see me play.
I had a History teacher in Middle School that had us play this game to teach us about early civilizations. Spent hours playing this game at home. Hands down my favorite Civ game ever.
Probably my most played game of the 1990’s, I spent countless nights thinking “just one more turn”. It’s an absolute masterpiece, and I would love to see this on GOG!

Front Mission 2089
Front Mission 2089Front Mission 2089 is a tactical role-playing game developed by Square Enix Co., Ltd., MSF, and Winds, and was published and released in Japan by Square Enix Co., Ltd. in 2005 and 2008 for the mobile phones. The game was released on March 7, 2005, October 27, 2005, and June 18, 2008. Front Mission 2089 borrows many of the gameplay mechanics found in Front Mission. The video game progresses in a linear manner: watch cut-scene events, complete missions, set up their wanzers during intermissions, and sortie for the next mission. Missions in Front Mission 2089 are traditional tactical RPG fare, ranging from destroying all enemy targets to protecting a particular allied target. Due to its mobile phone format, the story of Front Mission 2089 is told through episodic content; new episodes were released for download on the video game's official website on a bi-weekly basis. A returning feature in the game is the Arena. Like in Front Mission, players can fight other players to win monetary rewards. Mission rankings also make a return; based on the scoring system of Front Mission 3, players can earn new parts and wanzers by doing well during missions. Another returning feature is briefings. Lastly, players can choose to play two unique scenarios - one with the Oceania Cooperative Union (O.C.U.), and one with the United States of the New Continent (U.S.N.).
