Brave Fencer Musashi

Brave Fencer Musashi (1998)

by Square Product Development Division 5, Square, Square Electronic Arts, Square Enix
Genres:Role-playing (RPG), Adventure
Themes:Action, Comedy
Game modes:Single player
Story:150 years ago, the legendary warrior known as the Brave Fencer Musashi saved the kingdom of Allucaneet from the evil Wizard of Darkness. Now, his spirit is reincarnated in a young, rather short-tempered boy. Fillet, the princess of Allucaneet, summons the reluctant hero to the palace and gives him the powerful sword Fusion, which he needs to defeat the evil Thirstquencher Empire. It soon turns out that the Empire is after another legendary sword, Lumina, so Musashi's first task is to get it before the bad guys do!.. Brave Fencer Musashi is an action game with strong RPG elements. Controlling Musashi, the player explores the pre-rendered backgrounds from third person view (similarly to Final Fantasy VII), visiting towns, talking to NPCs, etc. There is a day/night cycle in the game, which is manifested in the schedules of NPCs and/or monsters, as well as Musashi's fatigue level, which increases if he doesn't sleep enough. Musashi uses the two swords, Fusion and Lumina, to fight his enemies. The two swords have different properties: while Fusion behaves more or less like a traditional melee weapon, Lumina needs to be imbued with various elemental items in order to unleash powerful attacks.Show more

I own 4 copies of this game and it is absolutely hands down my favorite video game of all time. If GoG can do the impossible and bring this game to PC I would buy so many copies for friends and family. It’s crazy to think about how this game fit onto one ps1 disc. The character design, music, and story are what shaped me and my interests. I play this game every year for my birthday and it means so much to me. I can’t think of anything else that impacted me more than this game.

Muashi...Once upon a time, this could've been Squaresoft's Zelda killer for the PlayStation...but alas, it was not meant to be. This game has so much charm and charisma, that it would be a shame to let it disappear into the annals of history. I remember playing this game until I'd fall asleep to its castle or town at night themes...You have no idea how many weekends I would spend trying to find all the collectibles! I really wanted all the musicians and all the action figures! Musashi is such an iconic game to me, because it had everything you could want out of a title of its type - it had heart, the gameplay was fun, the story was hilarious, the gameplay variety was ingenious, and the voice acting was magnificent. You really couldn't go wrong with this game. You could label it as a parody, but it wouldn't do it justice - It stands on its own two feet even today, as a feel-good modern classic, and it deserves its time to shine.

This is my all time favorite gave ever, above all others. I first played a demon of it from a disc in a magazine from my local grocery store and since then, I just love how it played. It was also the game that awakened my mind to the concept of "Whoa, this demo is actually a taste of what will soon be a full game." And since then I've always attributed BFM to my awaken of how games are made and released to the public. I want this gave to be released on GOG because I want people to experience a true game of an Action JRPG.

This is the best Action RPG I have ever played and my absolute favorite in my life! What I love about this game: [ 1 ] The animations for character movement, attacks, and various actions are smooth and well-executed (not sluggish or awkward like in many PS1 games). [ 2 ] The progression and ability-absorbing system is fun and simple. [ 3 ] Encountering each boss was thrilling, especially the first one, Steam Knight. I remember how exciting that battle was when I first played it. The background music made it even more intense. (Replaying it now doesn’t feel quite the same, but for those who played it back in the day, I’m sure they remember that feeling.) [ 4 ] The mini-games were fun, challenging, and engaging. [ 5 ] The game’s theme and design + vibrant fantasy environments full of adventure were exactly my style. I especially loved the unique boss designs and the creative ways to defeat them. [ 6 ] The witty character dialogues and charming jokes in the cutscenes. [ 7 ] There was also an in-game collectible character model system, which was mind-blowing for me at the time. Having such a feature in a game back then was truly amazing. [ 8 ] The soundtrack for each scene was masterfully crafted. Even now, whenever I listen to the music, it instantly brings back memories of the moments I experienced in the game. All of this remains etched in my heart to this day. It’s a shame that this game isn’t well-known. I believe that anyone who played this game (especially when it was first released) would surely love it as much as I do. If you play it, The development team truly put a lot of love and care into this game. I really wish the original team would create a sequel or that more developers would make games in this style. At the very least, I hope this game gets re-released, because I missed the chance to buy it as a kid. I want this game to remain available for future generations, so it doesn’t fade into obscurity. A masterpiece like this shouldn’t be lost to time.

I remember playing the demo on a PlayStation underground disc and was immediately sold, the game has so much charm and an absolutely banger soundtrack. Many likely bought this just for the FF8 demo, but BFM quickly became one of my favorite games of all time. It holds up incredibly well even today and I look forward every year to my summer tradition of speedrunning the game with my friend.

Brave fencer musashi has been one of my favorite games since I was young. I don't say lightly that it still holds up today. From the music, the voice acting (A surprising list of big names), to the graphics and controls, it all holds steady to the test of time and the standards of modern games. It's a amazing game to replay, and a great experience for first time players.
From fighting the steam knight on PlayStation demo disc over and over to countless hours spent playing the full game. BFM was a core childhood memory for me and the quality time I shared with my brother while playing. This game is the standard for story and player progression that I still judge games by today. Let’s make sure this game is available for future generations to enjoy.

Lembro de ver o CD dele no porta CDs do meu irmão, infelizmente ele estava riscado mas dava pra jogar o capítulo 1 e já nos primeiros minutos eu já estava amando ele.
If this is even possible please add it to GOG, and if it was ever localized in other countries like Poland please try to get ahold of new voiceovers. I randomly bought this at a shop as a kid based on the Playstation cover art and was shocked how much I loved it since I never liked Square's turn-based JRPGs and I am more of an action mechanics enjoyer. This game is tight. The voice acting is weird but genuinely charming, and set to the amazing soundtrack with perfect action RPG game loop and mechanics I was hooked for many nights. I never got to finish it because a glitch broke my save file and I had to sell off all my PS1 stuff before I ever got around to playing through from the start. I'd love to own an official version of to play through all the way. It is a cozy, peaceful, gratifying game. Scratches so many itches.
This is the game that is my absolute favorite!!! back in 1998 when you first purchased a Playstation it comes with a demo disk and on that demo disk is this game!!! I love it with a passion and if this game ever comes back I'm ready. Just being able to vote for it is awesome! one of the voice actors for the Character Jon is Steve Blum so that was awesome knowing the voice of toonami was in the game.
Those games also need your vote!
