Okay so there was the secondary story throughout the game of Geralt's dealings with the Wild Hunt, and I'm so confused as to how they fit in with the first game.

In the first game they seemed like a force of nature, and the King of the Wild Hunt seemed to be using Geralt as destruction and one of his agents.

But in the second game...they are elves from another dimension? What do they do in this dimension?

Is the path of destruction that follows Geralt (explained by the King in the last game) due to the Wild Hunt having his soul?

It's a confusing topic and I'm wondering if anyone could shed some light on the matter.
I presume the Wild Hunt will become far more prominent in an expansion or TW3. It is quite mysterious to those of us that have not read any of the books and have only played the game.
Well ,the explanation will include spoiling a lot. Spoiling content of Witcher's saga by Sapkowski, witch i believe will be translated to English pretty soon and You will know about Wild Hunt for Youreself. So think again if You really want to hear that, and i'll reveal what Wild Hunt really is.
MASSIVE SPOILERS AEAD!

tl;dr: They are elves from another world.

One of main concept of Witcher's universe is that there are multiple pararel worlds. They are separate, but travel between them is possible under some circumstances. The process is usually spontaneous and apocalyptic and entire populations of beings are being thrown into other places and worlds. That's how humans, elves, dwarves and co. were thrown into Witcher's world and came to populate it in separate waves. In fact, it is implied that humans and nonhumans alike are one people, albeit taken from different timelines. Elves for instance are likely to be more developed humans from some distant future.

It is however sometimes to initiate this process voluntarily and in predictable manner. Most powerful mages can do it, but only on miniscule scale. There are however beings who have natural abilities to travel through worlds and timelines and to take others with themselves. Those are the so-called Sources. They are all descendants of two people - a tragic marriage of a human male and an elven woman. Ciri from the novels was one of them, so was Alvin from the first game.

The wild hunt are elves from another world. Their world is different from the one in which Geralt lives. In their world, elves have won and exterminated all humans. Now they are looking for a way to pull their Witcher-world-bound brethren out. It is established that an ice age is coming in few centuries, so they are limited in time. So they are using their magical powers to travel in small groups to the Witcher’s world. They are abducting/experimenting with people in order to understand the nature of Sources and use them for their agenda. Usually they don’t come in person but appear as specters. It’s a safety measure.

WAIT! There is more...! ;-)

If you want to read any more fantasy book (not only about Witcher Geralt) then don't even try to read below info. NEVER EVER!

Somebody created something called/named "General Theory of Magic" (English by Google). It's role model was [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_relativity]general theory of relativity but this particular is quasi-scientific, of course. BUT... it make a lot of sense in Witcher's magic world...
