Gabucino: Win7/64
This is something someone said in the hardware mouse thread:

"On Windows XP the mouse control is smooth, lag free and great and on Windows 7, while I seem to have around 2-5 more FPS than on XP, mouse control is horrible - as there's lag in game, no matter what video settings I use. Thus making the game unplayable."

The mentioned W7 is 64 bit, as well. I don't know enough about processors or video cards to know if they play a significant role in your particular case, but it seems like there may be a problem with lag in 64-bit W7. Just a theory for now, but thanks for contributing.

Interesting, although I mostly got over the mouse lag issue (since many Windows games are bad in this regard, especially the more 3D intensive ones). What I'm terribly annoyed about is the map open lag, the jitter when the game loads/saves/whatever it does while I'm running around, and the immersion breaker 1-2 second black screens before cutscenes, and some area transitions.

When you say jitter, do you mean a stutter every half second or so while you run around? If so, have you tried using a FPS limiter like dxtory or something along those lines? That supposedly fixes the problem most of the time.
Yes there is a small lag when opening map but that's hardly an issue. Loading screens aren't either, at least for me. They are far and few between. OP, your PC specs are greater than mine as well.

No, it's definitely loading-related (with the snake animation). It's not always visible, but mostly on longer distances (on the same map), or when the game is loading someone's conversation.

Pressing ESC to enter the game menu takes 3-4 seconds to load it. Every time. It's the same with the ingame map. All these lags are really killing any immersion.

Can't find the invert mouse setting.

Regarding the new non-isometric third person mode, the camera is too far behind, often passing through some tree/bush. Also, I can't see where Geralt is running, since he's always in the way. Give back the W1 viewpoint optionally.

This new level design would work, if the player could traverse it in Fallout 3 style (first/isometric third person, plus jump! Yes, jump or something: it's sick having to evade every small rock, with 5 nekkers chasing).

Oh yeah, another bothersome lag: when using the medallion.

Step 1: wait for Geralt to come to a complete stop.
Step 2: press Z
Step 3: wait one more second, because Geralt was still moving!
Step 4: press Z again
Step 5: wait 'til the animation ends
Step 6: wait more...
Step 7: move again!

Witcher 1 version: press and hold ALT. Anytime, anywhere.

Map loading isn't a bother. Except that half the content will be loaded later (in-map) as I described, often causing half second lags.

Again, I don't know much about processors, but maybe it's the fact that you're on two cores and not four? Just a guess.

Escape > Options > Control Options > Invert X-Axis/Invert Y-Axis.
Agree about the medallion usage. Its a pain.

what can I say other than i expected some issues because they're using a brand new engine and they have some kinks to work out. List your complaints in the improvement thread ( I sure have) and just deal with the small stuff. :) The game's worth it.

Hope you're joking :) But what the hell, tried limiting W2 to one core, did not get slower.

I don't have a "Control Options". Guess I'd have to install the 1.2 patch, which - as I heard - breaks the installation if the game was purchased from GOG, and 1.1 was not reapplied by hand /o\ Waiting for the proper official fix.

Sorry, but it was W1EE which was worth it.

It had a lot of weakness (mainly in the gfx area), but the engine was working. W2 is the opposite: it has some pretty solid gfx work (and more), but the engine was not ready on release, and the game is consolized.

I have the GOG version. I also have the 1.2 patch. Nothing has been broken, here--in fact, except for the difficulty being toned down a bit, it's been nothing but bugfixes and new features. The escape menu loads a lot faster in 1.2... maybe it'll do the same for your map?

You just download 1.1 in "my account" under the download links, then let it automatically update to 1.2 (or if you're offline, apply the universal 1.2 patch from their website). If you're pretty much resigned when it comes to the game, it wouldn't hurt to try, right?
Aside from the UI, how is the game consolized?

Done, didn't help.

Le sigh. Patch 1.3 should be out in ~1-2 weeks if my memory serves me correctly, so maybe check back then and see if that helps. I don't know what to tell you until then. Thanks for trying, at least.
Now I'd have to get through the mist to Verden. First time I enter the mist, nothing happens, I run around for 5 minutes, become bored of the fact that everytime some lame wraith slaps Geralt, he stumbles for seconds. There are no exit zones this time.

Reload.

Second try, now an orb appears, courtesy of the amulet. Then it disappears.

Reload.

Third time, it disappears again. I run around, nothing. Gotta love scripted stuff!

Why is this game so bad?
Now your just bitching. Go play dungeon keeper.
