I noticed Neverwinter Nights 1's system requirements are so much higher than they were originally, quite the large jump compared to the Pentium 2/450 MHz or Pentium 3/800MHz.

Does NWN still run well under the original specs? When I bought my copy I had it in mind for an older computer.

As long as you use the vanilla version it should run, though you might have to use lower in-game graphics and sound settings. None of the games on GOG state the original minimum requirements as this hardware is seldom used nowadays. Eventually you'll have to install it to see how it performs, because aside from the processor there are a lot of other factors too (graphics card, operating system, RAM, hard drive etc.)

For older games, the requirements are more likely those to run GOG's installer than the game itself. :)

However, in NWN1's case, the GOG version includes the expansions (the CPU requirement for these was an 800MHz CPU with 1.3 GHz+ recommended on the Deluxe Edition boxed set) so GOG's recommendations aren't a big change. It's probable that the patches (NWN received many of these) increased CPU requirements as well as the features of the expansion sets.

Unfortunately, if CPU turns out to be the bottleneck, lowering graphics settings is unlikely to help. Scouring an auction site or second-hand store for the original boxed set of NWN may be the only option.
