I haven't been able to read this entire thread but I am quite excited that Ubisoft is on board.
Has the Silent Hunter series been talked about at all?

Al1: Splinter Cell!!! Mistake? did he mean the other Tom Clancy games? Or droppage of another title coming to GOG? Would personally love to see Splinter Cell on here, as i did not buy any in that series at retail because of DRM horror stories.

Only the third one, Chaos Theory, had a DRM horror story, as I recall. The rest are fine, and I believe D2D and Steam's download versions contain no DRM at all (save for Steam itself).

Zeewolf: GOG: Please give us the original Prince of Persia. It would be perfect for this site. In fact, I don't understand why we got Sands of Time instead of that....

i totally agree with you.
ubi? - they are huge and wooohoooo for having them here on GOG. (great news!)
but for me O ing GOG is very important - i can have these old games that are almost impossible to get legally (plus - we have them drm free now). gog totally got me with robinson's requiem and screamer.
with pop:sot - where's original pop? (pop+pop2 for 6$? maybe some day :)
for me - it's totally ok if we'll have some new games (2003 + ?, pop:sot is from 2003... ) on gog. but as long as we also have growing lineup of some classic old games.
I will definately be getting all of the Heroes of Might and Magic Games, as well as all of the Might and Magic games.
Now we need EA so I can get Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri with Alien Crossfire and the SimCity, Need for Speed, and Tiger Wood series and more without DRM.
And Atari so I can get the Rollercoaster Tycoon Series without DRM.
As it is, as soon as I can afford it, I'm going on a shopping spree here at GOG.
I think the original Might and Magic games such as Xeen would be amazing. I would love to have versions of those where I don't need tons of other programs to get them to work right.

I had DRM problems too.I changed my DVD three times before Chaos Theory worked. :/
Ok, and I thought that adding Cannon Fodder was the best thing GOG could give me this month. I didn't expect this O_O

Fair enough, perhaps i was projecting the stories of CT onto the others in the series at the time. Sadly for me though, Steam is still a sticking point, as my PC cannot connect to the internet where I am. I have to use my mac powerbook to browse the internet or download anything from it and then transfer it across, hence GOG being just about my only alternative to retail.

I doubt EA will ever come here...if they do though, it would be the ultimate victory, hehe.
wtf??!?!?!?!? AAAAAWESOME
I always wanted to play Farcry but never got around to it. PP is also on my list, and I've heard great things about Sturmovik and Beyong Good and Evil

Petrell: Aww, I was wishing for ATARI instead of ubisoft for BG1&2, IWD1&2 and PS:T goodness (also NWN and ToEE). Ubisoft does not offer much of anything for Turn based tactics/strategy and RPG fans as far as I can see (unless Ubi owns some franchise that Wikipedia does not list). Ones it has I own or have played to death already (HoMM 1-3, Warlords 1-3 etc.).
Does Ubisoft own any good Turn based strategy/tactics or RPG franchises wikipedia does not list?
(side note: HoMM 1 will be overpriced no matter what as various bumble packs are cheap and still rather easy to come by (wether its 1-3, 1-4, 1-5 bumble pack) especially as first has nothing second does not have besides being first in the series. I know it's not GOG's fault but even it was HoMM II platinum instead (HoMM 1+2 +expansions) for 5.99$ it would not be a bargain.)

Actually, Petrell, I'm pretty sure that Ubi currently owns the rights to the old SSI back catalog...yep, they took ownership of the brand in 2001. They retired it, but I could see them possibly pulling some of the bigger names out to get a little money from them.

So they own IP for (Panzer, Allied. Pacific, Fantasy, People's) General series and SSI AD&D Gold Box classics? Interesting. But they probably are not first priority for Ubi even if they could find the gold masters for the games in question...
Do they have any other (preferably windows era) RPG/TBS franchises?
Edit: SSI catalog seem to have Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate (among other Warhammer titles) everyone seem to wish for for some reason. And Imperialism II, I hope that comes here eventually!
BTW, SSI was one of my favorite developers/publishers in the olden days of my youth.

The SSI-thing is quite interesting. There are some REALLY good games in their catalog.
I really do hope that Ubisoft won't just limit their GOG-releases to brands that are still active, though for some reason I fear that's exactly what they'll do (partly because of the launch-lineup).
To me, the best thing about GOG is that I get to buy and play games that aren't available other places. So the launch lineup was quite disappointing in that sense, and of the upcoming games only HOMM looks interesting to me (though I dearly hope they won't go with the $9.99 price for that one as well).
If this Ubisoft-deal can be used as a stepping stone to get classics from Blue Byte and SSI, as well as some of the old and more obscure Ubisoft-games, I think it's great news. Otherwise, it's kind of "meh" as far as I'm concerned.

I wouldn't be surprised if they're releasing the more popular games first, seeing how that goes, then opening up the more obscure titles for release here. That's what you would do as a businessman, wouldn't you?

So Ubi owns Blue Byte as well? Any other interesting developers/publishers Ubi has bought?
That'll add Settlers series, Battle Isle series, Albion and Archimedean Dynasty to possible future releases. UBi begins to seem more atractive now but you're probably correct about Ubi not at least being in any hurry to bring it's old back catalogue here.
