Well I'm going to send Interplay and Atari an email regarding the difficulties, if they even exist, in settling the rights of Planescape:Torment

I could kick myself. A couple years ago I saw PS:T brand new, unopened in a department store for 10 bucks on a sale rack with a bunch of other PC games and didn't buy it. I don't know what I as thinking at the time. *sigh*
Anyway, as for who owns the rights, I don't know for certain, but I do know Atari owns the rights for distribution of all D&D based computer games, so permission from them would have to be involved. Probably WotC as well.

Goes the same with me and Crusader: No Regret and No Remorse. They had both. I had plenty of money - not just enough. And it was one year ago. Mind's a weird place...

GameTap has Planescape Torment.
I'd be amazed if GOG wasn't allowed to get it.

I know this is going to cause some grief.........but I can't get into Torment.
I own the game - bought on a budget label a few years back mainly because of nearly everyone banging on about how good it is.
But.
I cant get going in it! I find the Mortuary boring, the NPCS all samey (seen one Dustman, you'e seen em all), the interface clunky, the look of it just wrong. I have no problem with older graphics, and i love the *idea* of Torment, but it doesn't engage me like it should.
What am I doing wrong? What am I missing? Do I need to plough more hours into it? Am I too shallow - its not grabbed me, but I've only put 2-3 hours gameplay into it.....do I need to devote more time??
Someone - sell it to me. Convince me to carry on and discover why nearly everyone thinks this is the dogs......and I'm not a 15 year old 'twitch' gamer either (not that theres anything wrong with that) - I'm a 38 year old well read gamer who normally Likes this sort of thing....
....its so fustrating.............;o)

Robbeasy, it just may not be your thing. I've never played it and only want it because I've heard so many good things about it. So, need to for anyone to sell you on the game... just send your copy to me! :)

The game has a very slow start. The Mortuary, IMO, IS really boring, but it's actually over pretty quickly. The first town 'area' you are in are also mostly Dustmen, so if you don't like Dustmen it doesn't get better there.
The game really needs to build a little before you start caring. The main draw, for me, is the memories and the pieces of information you start getting as you progress in the game that shed some light into who you are and what happened. Later, when you start getting more companions, their interaction between each other as well as your interaction with them also becomes interesting, plus the later NPCs will actually matter and are much more interesting than the first few you meet.
Granted, the interface is horribly clunky, especially spell casting (the little pop up menu is horrible). Combat isn't very nuanced, but the level of story and dialogue for every character you meet is pretty staggering, plus the nuanced options of how to proceed are also good. The gameworld is really well fleshed out and immersive once you get a little more into it. The beginning level is a horrid representation of the game as a whole though, but I won't lie and say there aren't any tedious portions to go through before you find some golden nuggets.

You know.....i have a terrible FEAR that this might happen to me.
I've never played Planescape but, like you, i am completely charmed by the story it offers. On paper this is the best game i could ever play.....but what if i get disappointed like you did? Man, i think i couldn't stand that! I have been waiting for this game for so long to become available that i MUST like it :)
Anyway, like Coelocanth said, probably it's just not your thing: like a wise man said "You cannot change a first impression".
Or maybe you haven't played long enough to let it suck you in :-D

You really should get out of mortuary first before evaluating the game. It gets better as you explore new areas.

Yes, plough through and get out of the mortuary and don't stick around the first area with the dusties because they do get a bit generic. Instead try to head to the Smoldering Corpse Bar in the South East Hive. There's plenty of variety there what with Ignus, Dak'kon, a guy called O who apparently knows the secrets of existance, a blackmail possibility and a most unusual thing you can order from a barman...

I've missed Torment when it was released.
But now i have chance to redeem my mistake and buy it.
Coz 22 of May the game will be back on shelves in Poland.
I write this only because its going to be released in one of CD-Projekt cheap series.
So maby its a sign, that will see it soon on gog.
