AlphaMonkey: Thing is, Hamill's gone on to do some incredible vocal work.

Yeah, he has amazing range for a voice actor. When I played Full Throttle, I had no idea that he played Fryburger until the credits, and I did a double take. Like you, I also thought he was awesome in that Batman series, which is one of the reasons I'm so psyched for the
Batman: Arkham Asylum game. They're practically bringing back the whole gang for that one, and I'm also especially happy that they got the original Harley Quinn in there, too.
I could never really get into wing commander because the physics always felt off. It never really felt like i was in a ship, as it felt like there was little inertia and the ships could turn on a dime.
Admittedly space physics are totally different to earth physics, and very few space games have realistic physics. So its not that they weren't realistic, its just that they felt lightweight for me.
Personally I much prefered the x-wing/tie-fighter series to wing commander, because for some reason it "felt better". Not that it was any more realistic... ;-)

I think you're playing the games for the wrong reasons.
Wing Commander wasn't focused on "REALISTIC SPACE PHYSICS"... It was focused on the..........GAME.

maybe i didn't explain it well. the "game" felt lightweight. it felt "wrong".
in a game that is basically all about flying around a void, i found that the "feel" of that flying is highly important... though of course its just a personal thing.
Possibly playing them with a decent 3d virtual cockpit or something would have helped with the immersion for me. Who knows.
I did enjoy the torpedo runs...
and 2 player head to head battles in Wing Commander Armada. (though two people sharing a keyboard doesn't lead to the most skillful game, it sure is fun!)

You can play Armada online now, it's quite nifty. Check it out.
another reason why wing commander won't come to GOG: massive download sizes for the ones that had the live-action cutscenes.
I loved wing commander... it was super cheesy but awesome when I was in my early teen years playing those games, the later one's got a little TOO cheesy, and their ship designs blow, but still fun. I'm looking forward to the stand-alone FS2 mod of wing commander, the demo's already available (Wing Commander Saga)

Surely that would only apply to the later ones? it would also depend how easily they can be compressed.
If GOG want to get as many games as they can, they'll have to get those big ones too. I would expect they have considered the possibility.

Man. I remember playing Armada head to head with a buddy of mine by dialing his modem direct. That was a pain in the ass. Kinda fun, though. We shot each other down over and over and over again. I miss that crap.

I don't see GOG limited themselves when it comes to game sizes. IIRC, WC3/4 are both under 2gb.
The Wing Commander games were indeed pretty good, but I personally enjoyed the spin-off's more than the main games. Privateer is my favourite, for its open-ended "Eliteness", but I also loved Strike Commander, for being the only modern flight-sim with an actual storyline that captivates and works.
Unfortunately, as others have already mentioned, Wing Commander is Origin, and Origin is (or was) Electronic Arts, and the chances of having them join GOG looks pretty slim. Well, here's hoping with the rest! After all, it does look like EA has been trying to re-invent themselves lately. How successful they have been at that, is open for debate, but I believe that if they joined GOG, they would certainly send the right kind of message, signalling a major improvement for their company. I have strong doubts this will actually happen, but a man can dream* . ;)
About the sizes of the games: I too doubt this would be a problem. High speed internet is pretty widespread by now, as is cheap HD-space. Besides, GOG does not seem to have had any problems with large games to date.
Edit:
* On the other hand, this "dream" could become a nightmare. I certainly wouldn't want EA to take over and make GOG another one of their brands! Not likely to happen either, I hope...
