Everything Interplay 60% off | Price change incoming.

Ever had a really really cool staycation? You know, one where you get some time off just so that you can lock yourself in and chill by your favorite screen, armed with mountains of unwholesome snacks, several gallons of energizing beverages and the all-powerful A/C remote by your side? Well the Interplay Staycation is shaping up to be a pretty epic one!
These golden classics will soon have their prices increased so don't dally: grab them now for 60% off and prepare for a glorious house-sitting session.

You want to start with something that has oodles of atmosphere, intriguing story, and enough combat bits to keep you on your toes: Stonekeep, Lionheart or Lost Eden are all good warm-up choices. Now take the action up a notch with Earthworm Jim's wacky platforming, MDK's chaotic antics, Shogo's intense gunplay, or Freespace 2's magnificent explosions. Time to top if off with class: Treat yourself to the diverse and ridiculously entertaining Sacrifice and Giants: Citizen Kabuto, two unique gaming experiences that are enough to make this staycation totally worth it!

These are just some of the neat Interplay treasures on offer, though. There's also Toonstruck, Prehistorik 1+2, Redneck Rampage, plenty of Star Trek and more to choose from!

The special Interplay Staycation Sale will last until July 31, 3 PM UTC.

The price change on the Interplay catalog will be applied after the sale is concluded.

fronzelneekburm: Goddammit, Hervé! After that Fallout giveaway you almost had me convinced that there is a human being underneath all those layers of sleaze. Guess I was wrong.

Still, as much as I'd like to put the blame entirely on Hervé, the players are just as much to blame with their quasi-religious fixation on Steam sales, which helped create a market situation where publishers release their shit at more than double the intended price, in order for it to go on sale frequently. And don't get me started about vulture companies that release modded "speshul" editions of ancient games for 20+ bucks. Thanks, Beamdog/Gearbox/...! I guess that went to show that it pays off to be a brazen rip-off artist in this industry. Otherwise we wouldn't be seeing stunts like this.
Is it really much different than anything else really? Honestly, the local supermarkets are exactly the same. Almost every product is half off or higher every 6-12 weeks or so and if you have several different supermarkets in the neighborhood it's like every couple of weeks at most for the same product with them rotating sales between different chains. At this point I consider the base price to be the sales price.

It's a much greater extent (which makes perfect sense, not being physical products, so having infinite quantities available, no risk of spoilage or damage and cost per unit next to zero). But even if it would be the same, does that make it right or acceptable?

Perhaps not, but even GOG has jumped into that fray after initially bashing the practice. I doubt it's going anywhere. People like feeling like they got a deal, even if it's just smoke and mirrors. And if anything, one of the biggest complaints people have lately is that Steam's sales percentages are getting less, ever since the refunds cut away the flash sales. The tactic remains the same of course.

Does that Ignition game work with an Xbox 360 controller?

An IP portfolio with a few dozen games with next to no market value (other than nostalgia) simply won't sell.
A few dozen games that show a "healthy" market value (as long as you have no clue whatsoever about that market) does sell - especially if you conveniently forgot to report that you sold 500K units of game X at price $0.99 rather than $19.99 :)

The price hike is simply for investors, not for customers - the current IP holders won't care if they will never ever sell a single unit more of these games. It's also a quite questionable business practice, since it is designed to give a false impression of the real value of the company portfolio (SEC fraud in the US?).

Alternatively, just very desperate for cash and suckers.

XYCat: also why are they getting price increased?

TheMonkofDestiny: It's gotta have something to do with this - https://globenewswire.com/news-release/2016/09/07/870242/10165014/en/Interplay-Announces-Sale-of-Significant-IP-Portfolio-Wedbush-Securities-as-Strategic-Advisor.html

They've been dumping titles onto Steam for months now, including some already here on GOG and some not (go figure, I guess), with inflated pricing as well. (What follows below is purely speculation, as no one has reported anything concrete about what's happened with that sale)

Since the sale was (allegedly) a "buy it all" type of deal, this must mean they either finally have a serious buyer eyeing it and they're attempting to squeeze everything out of those titles while they can OR no fish took the bait for the sale and they're now attempting to increase the cash flow into the company to try and prevent it from belly flopping back into bankruptcy status again.
Interesting info.

Let's postpone any buy for now, just in case.

Robette: much in the catalogue is somewhere between mediocre and bad to begin with, with some notable exceptions.

igrok: Um, seriously? The vast majority of Interplay published games are my favorites. In terms of the goodness ratio, perhaps only Bullfrog/EA fairs better.
They have a few very good games, like Freespace, Giants, or Sacrifice, but to me that's mostly it. Some games are also worth it just for the curiosity of the design, like Messiah or MDK. For most other games I would think someone who is not playing it for the nostalgia could find a better representative of the respective genre elsewhere.

It doesn't seem to be easy to do so.

You don't really need to anyway, four directions and accel/brak/turbo is enough.
Mm.. I only miss these average titles which I've always skipped.
Do you think that some of these are actually great and I should really buy them?

Star Trek™: Starfleet Academy (maybe the 2nd is better)
Star Trek™: Starfleet Command Gold Edition
Dragon Wars
Battle Chess Special Edition
Kingdom: The Far Reaches
Redneck Rampage Collection
MDK 2
Conquest of the New World
Jagged Alliance 2: Unfinished Business
Die By The Sword + Limb From Limb
Screamer
Ignition
Kingpin: Life of Crime
Lost Eden
Messiah
F/A-18E Super Hornet
Lionheart: Legacy of the Crusader
Cyberia
Cyberia 2: Resurrection
Shattered Steel
Of Light and Darkness: The Prophecy
Shogo: Mobile Armor Division
VR Soccer '96
Earthworm Jim 3D
Titus The Fox: To Marrakech and Back
Pray for Death
Invictus: In the Shadow of Olympus
Evolva

Lionheart: Legacy of the Crusader
If you love RPGs, I think Lionheart: Legacy of the Crusader is of a great value. And since the price will increase, it's a much better deal now (if you are looking to buy).

Grargar: An idea of what price hikes you can expect: http://store.steampowered.com/search/?sort_by=Released_DESC&term=Interplay

I'm looking forward to seeing Interplay trying to sell Redneck Rampage Collection for $20 with a straight face.
LMAO! The Earthworm Jim series at a collective worth of $60. A luminous price hike indeed! But that chess listing for $25 is one pretty steep offering. I think you can get a decent good quality digital chess game over at Big Fish for as low as $2.99 (should you qualify for the first-time buyer's discount).

Thanks for this.

Kingpin, current GOG base price, i.e. without the sale discount: £7.79
Kingpin, Steam price from the linked page: £6.99

I wonder whether that price will get matched. :-/
I have the two MDK games and Earthworm Jim 1+2 in my wishlist, but I am really startled by this news. Price increase on nearly two decade old games?? Seriously??
Should have bought when they were on a higher discount, but who could have thought that they would increse prices on age old games. When Shovel Knight increses its base price after adding new content I can understand (should have bought it too earlier too), but this is utterly unbelievable.
I'm not sure which I find more obnoxious, the price hike or the use of "staycation".

First and only time on sale here:
Ignition
Lost Eden
Of Light and Darkness: The Prophecy
Pray for Death
Titus the Fox: To Marrakech and Back

These and everything else 60% off (the normal and best Interplay discount except when the whole catalog was in a single bundle for 90% off). Should also be noted that when some Interplay titles had a price rise from $5.99 to $9.99, the discount never did increase. Not too encouraging for future higher discounts...
