Klumpen0815: What exactly was involved in the hiring process?
I'd like a bit transparency from a site dedicated to idealist (DRM-free) gaming.

MaximumBunny: Be willing to move to Poland and don't be a niche. Those are the only 2 requirements. It's not like anyone's jumping over each other to work at GOG, or that they're so picky that they expect people to meet everything to the complete standard. Being willing to move to Poland counters any lack of qualifications for the majority of positions.

Painted_Doll: Community Manager ? Who ? Where ? In here ?
avatar
MaximumBunny: Fables22, the new mod/manager/forum god/etc. that wants to control the uncontrollable that is the GOG general discussions community. So basically he gets paid to pretend to be working like everyone else does. A few announcement posts here, a couple of question threads/twitch streams there, answer some pms, and done.

Ciri was probably the shortest lived CM here. I guess she got moved to another department that has actual work.
I don't really want to get involved in this thread much, because I expect it to evolve just like all the other moderation-related threads have, but....
1) I'm not exactly "new" anymore.
and
2) I've said this before to but the "Community" doesn't just mean the community on the forums.
Hence why the skill set has to be a lot broader than just "being from within the community" and have the ability to comprehensively post in the forums and answer questions.

Klumpen0815: After reading this thread I'm slightly optimistic.
Let's just hope closing threads won't be the "solution" to every problem around here.
It would still be nice to have someone who has some clue about gaming although it doesn't seem to be necessary.
I really don't know what makes you think I don't :)

Klumpen0815: So far it hasn't evolved in the usual direction which still surprises me, it was a test of sorts.
Well, like some others here I never had a Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/Twitch/etc... account, don't plan to get one and wouldn't say the people there are part of GOG community since I think of this site when it comes to it.
This community here right on this site was one of the best there ever was some years ago before things went downhill, which mostly happened because of some of the people that play nice with you now.

Klumpen0815: Several things but I'd like to know your favourite games in any case.
I think you misunderstand what I meant. I was pointing out that the forum is only a fraction of my job - we don't have a dedicated person just for forum management, and a lot of the other things I do that are just as much a part of my job - and they involve a bit of expertise and skills within the area - which means we couldn't just hire someone from "within the community". Thinking about the forum as the one and only GOG community is a bit narrowminded, in my opinion - we do have a FB community as well as a Twitter one, and a lot of what I do is also targeting and reaching out to other communities out there.

As for my favorite games - Journey, Zelda Ocarina of Time, GTA III & V, Age of Empires, sims - esp. SimCity 3000, Rollercoaster Tyccon and Pizza Tycoon, Theme Hospital, The Sims 4 is probably my biggest guilty pleasure :) I love classic city builders as well, esp. Caesar 3 & Pharaoh, Stronghold. I'm quite specific with what I like, I don't enjoy FPSs, and turn based fantasy games, and visuals are super important for me.

Klumpen0815: So I could dig up the and [url=https://www.gog.com/forum/general/vegan_game_devs]veganism threads now without getting de-repped to hell and back this time? ;)
If you think they can produce a fruitful (pun fully intended) and meaningful discussion, by all means do it. I know a few myself.

JMich: Don't forget the Twitch community. Whole lot of people I don't recall seeing in the forums there as well.
Yes, indeed. Although the Twitch community is an entirely different entity and managed entirely by someone else. But you are right, of course.
