I think Henry Cavill as Geralt will turn out OK. After all, I remember when people got upset at the thought of Michael Keaton playing Batman, and as it turned out, he ended up being the 2nd best Batman ever (after Adam West).

I liked Cristian, but Keaton was pretty good.
Looks terrible. The gruffness that we have known for Geralt to have in the games just isn't there. I know its based on the books and not the games, but seeing as the games are how we see the characters now they should of at least used them as a reference.

As others have said just looks like a bad cosplay.

RWarehall: Game of Thrones. Daenerys' brother from the early seasons.
Oh. Sorry. Not a fan.
What a terrible wig, looks like cosplay.

TARFU: Does he really look that much different from the first Witcher game?

Starmaker: It's the uncanny valley problem. The TW1 Geralt is clearly a CG model, very rough by modern standards, a stand-in for the real character, so imagination handles the rest. The Netflix Geralt looks like a larper in costume because he is a larper in costume, and the realism leaves very little for the imagination postprocessing to work with.
If this is an argument for reading books it's a damn good one. ;p

Damn, that's what I was gonna say lol.
It might be better with some facial stubble. At least that's how I played Geralt in The Witcher 3. And as we all know, characters must conform to a random internet person's niche vision or it's a guaranteed 0/10 ;)
Saw first on my phone and thought it's bad, but salvageable. Then I got home and saw it on my monitor....It's remarkably amateurish work all around, from his hair to his cheesy goth outfit. I can't believe this is the best they could come up with.
The artists at CDPR must be having a laugh at this...

Maybe my lack of familiarity with the other characters being mentioned biases me to being OK with this look for Geralt. Could maybe use a few more scars or testosterone shots, but, meh, i can imagine much, much worse.

I mean, have you even seen the monster hunter movie trailer?

EDIT: Reminds me of TW1's Geralt: about as much testosterone as Hatsune Miku.

sasuke12: Netflix has been making and cancelling crappy TV shows left and right these days.

First, they moronically inject politics and left-wing propaganda in their shows.
Second, people hate it.
Third, lack of ratings makes Netflix cancel the show.
Fourth, learn nothing from previous mistakes, Netflix rinses and repeats the above three steps.

I don't have high hopes for this show, given that the showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich openly admits to politicizing the show and making it more "female-friendly".
Thing is, those were probably terrible shows to begin with. A good team of creative people can take certain political topics and still come up with a good result, whether you agree with their opinions or not. But a crappy series/ movie is going to be crap, with or without controversial content.

On topic: Can't say I care for the actor and this "interpretation" of Geralt. Apparently there are some mods for Witcher 3 which turn Geralt into a young "pretty-boy", so perhaps this series targets the same audience. Teenage girls gotta have cute guys to write fanfiction about. *shrug*
He looks like he is trying not to burst out laughing.

The point is, it could also be a whole lot better. As others already pointed out, you can find amateur/ semi-pro cosplayers of Geralt who do a much more convincing job.

All the ones i see are based on the witcher 3. Given it's a series, i'd imagine they'd start closer to the beginning, when geralt doesn't look ancient. Do you have any such cosplay photos you'd like to share? I don't necessarily mean of yourself, but ones that would actually fit the obvious time.

That said, I do have some gripes with the show, already, and probably won't be watching. I just think it's only fair to be fair to something they managed to do right.

You do realize he aged throughout the games, right? He looks really young in TW1.

Fair point, he does look older in Witcher 3. The facial hair is likely a major factor, contributing to his change in appearance. That said, the character models from Witcher 1 and 2 look pretty bad by today's standards, so they're probably not a good basis for comparison. Also, I think it's fair if fans of the franchise have high expectations of a professional big budget production. ( Relatively speaking -- No idea how big their budget for this series actually is, but it's certainly on another level as a bunch of cosplayers who treat it as a hobby. )

Also a weird observation: Did Geralt in Witcher 1 have body hair? Just saw that on a screenshot, but I don't remember if he looked like that in the vanilla version or if it's a mod. Always found it weird how he has facial hair etc. in Witcher 3, but a perfectly smooth body.
